Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools led by Carson City Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch present a festival featuring the Music of Jay Ungar and Molly Mason on Saturday, May 11.
The concert will be at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. It includes a workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for string players of all ages, a potluck lunch, and a public concert beginning at 3:00 p.m. Admission to the festival and the concert is free, donations welcome.

Former Vagos chapter president sentenced to 16 years in 2011 beating

Strings in the Schools program begins Sept. 5

Strings in the Schools, directed by the Symphony's Education Director, Sue Jesch, provides free beginning violin lessons for students grades 2-5 and ensemble/orchestra experience for string students in all grades. Tuition and books are subsidized by the Carson City Symphony Association.

Carson City Road Report for July 16-22
Submitted by admin on Sat, 07/21/2012 - 12:00amThere will be nightly lane closures on US 395 from the junction of US 50W (Spooner) to 1st Street in Minden, Sunday through Thursday, between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. There will be flagger controlled traffic. Please drive with caution.
There will be work at the following locations as a result of the Freeway Landscaping Project. Traffic control may be in effect.
- North Carson Street, in the vicinity of the freeway overpass.
- Arrowhead Drive between N. Carson Street and Garnet Way.
- College Parkway in the vicinity of the Freeway.

New features in store for Fremont Elementary School
Submitted by admin on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 2:24pmFremont Elementary School grounds are currently under construction for a project to create a new and safer traffic pattern, making it easier for parents to drop off their children at school.
The new installations for the school consist of newly reconfigured parking areas to better cope with congestion on nearby roads. A pick-up area specifically designed for the kindergartners is also being installed on the east side of the school.

Food For Thought offers summer lunch program

Terrace Park is adjacent to Empire Elementary School. Lunch will be served to all children aged 2 to 18 who come to the park free of charge. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, gender or disability, and there be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

May 12, 2012 - 3:00pm On Saturday, May 12, Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools will hold a Latin Music Workshop and concert at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. Led by Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch and guest percussionists Liz White, Kevin Conlin, and Gerald Larson from the University of Nevada, Reno, the workshop is open to string players of all ages at no cost. Top Carson teacher is aide's ticket to full-ride scholarship

The timing was right: Her kids were old enough to take care of themselves after school, and she knew after 10 years of working as a teacher's aide at Empire Elementary School that she wanted to pursue a degree in elementary education.
Strings in Schools program begins new season Aug. 29

Strings in the Schools, directed by Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch, provides free beginning violin lessons for students grades 2-5 and ensemble/orchestra experience for string students in all grades. Tuition and books are subsidized by the Carson City Symphony Association. Enrollment is limited and classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Students are asked not to rent of purchase an instrument until after the first class. Some scholarships are available for instruments.
