Taking advantage of statewide moisture in the forecast, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will conduct prescribed fire operations across several portions of the forest this week as part of the forest’s hazardous fuels reduction effort and active forest management program. Also, weather and conditions permitting, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team will continue widespread prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The Nevada State Public Health Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine has characterized the first known Nevada case of the new B.1.1.7 coronavirus strain. The new strain was detected in a sample that was initially tested in the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory.

Students from all four classes recently nominated Carson High School Winterfest candidates for 2021 Winterfest week, Feb. 1-5, where both a King and Queen will be crowned. CARSON CITY — After a month of fundraising, Carson Tahoe has raised over $42,000 toward supplying reusable ENVO N95 masks for their frontline workers. Now, an anonymous donor has offered a match, allowing donors to double their impact. That’s right, every new ‘Sponsor A Caregiver’ gift received until Feb. 21 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

RENO — With much of the State of Nevada listed as in extreme drought, Nevadans are facing forecasts for a mild winter, with little precipitation since the rainy season started. With these designations, southern Nevadans are facing a mild and dry winter and northern Nevadans are looking at an uncertain forecast. All could face water restrictions, crop or pasture loss and, with exceptional drought, water shortage emergencies.

MINDEN — Douglas County businesses and non-profits can now request to receive free personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitizing products. Through the CARES Act, Douglas County is able to make available PPE and sanitizing products to businesses and non-profits within Douglas County at no charge.

Jacqueline Milagros Acosta-Bruno was born Nov. 17, 2002 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev., to Claudia Bruno and Hector Acosta. She has four younger brothers and sisters, all attending Carson City Schools, as well as a sibling just 18-months-old.

The workshop is focused and designed for individuals with little or no beekeeping experience.

CARSON CITY — We are now approaching a full year of coordinated efforts to address and minimize the spread of COVID-19. This has presented challenges to many, including health systems near and far. Early this year, Carson Tahoe Health began to pivot service lines and conserve personal protective equipment (PPE).

In a rush to avoid an end-of-the-year reversion back to the federal government, Nevada lawmakers have signed off on a plan that will allocate roughly $207 million in federal COVID-19 pandemic relief dollars largely to equipment costs and salaries of state employees.

NV Energy is alerting customers of a scam involving a person or persons who are calling both business and residential customers, falsely identifying themselves as utility company employees and making deceptive threats about their electric service, demanding immediate payment.

This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public’s assistance with locating the stolen property previously reported on October 20, 2020.

With the assistance of the Tri-NET Narcotic Task Force, Special Enforcement Team and the Detective Bureau an investigation was conducted which has led to the recovery of the stolen solar panels and some of the equipment.

In addition to being available by phone and online, the Carson City Library and staff remain committed to delivering its services to the local community through a variety of avenues. While currently closed to the public, the library is completing upgrades and installations to enable vulnerable populations to continue to safely access library collections.

The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Board of Directors on Wednesday approved abatements for 11 companies that it says will generate $90,207,019 in tax revenue and create 1,991 jobs over the next 10 years. Of the 11 companies, two are based in Lyon County and six in Washoe County.
