Among the topics to be discussed will be school security, the Sheriff Department's deescalation policy, and what may be unintended consequences of current juvenile detention practices. He will also be prepared to field questions on any issues of concern to the community.

The Carson City Park’s, Recreation and Open Space department, along with the Nevada Humane Society, will be hosting a Tails and Trails Dog Adoption Event at Riverview Park Feb. 26, 2022 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Monday's Democratic luncheon will feature a town hall by Carson City Sheriff Sheriff Kenneth T. Furlong. As always he is prepared to field questions on any and all topics on the minds of Carsonites, from whether black lives matter to whether Nevadans should defund the police. On Friday, March 13, as the state prepared to shut down, the fate of many four-legged, feathered and scaled residents hung in the balance.

Greg Hall, CEO of the Nevada Humane Society, which has a presence in Reno and Carson City, organized a late-night emergency call with staff. They discussed how to operate amid the threat of COVID-19, a potentially lethal virus that carried so many unknowns. Meanwhile, seven hours south, staff at The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas braced for the worst.

Hailey (aka Huloo) is a 5 and a half year old female American Pit Bull Terrier who is currently looking for her forever home where she will be the only pet; she just likes the attention all to herself, and I can’t blame her for that!

Coldwell Banker Select real estate agents serving Northern Nevada delivered 435.8 pounds of pet food to Friends in Service Helping, or FISH, a Carson City-based social services organization and pet food provider site for Feeding Pets of the Homeless.

That brings us to our newest Pet of the Week, Swan!

Two food drives are happening Thursday at two locations in Carson City. One drive is to collect Thanksgiving turkeys for families in need, and the other is a drive to help feed family pets.

Carson City Toyota will host a pet food donation drive and adoption event for the Nevada Humane Society this Thursday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Happy Friday Carson City! Pet of the Week has been on hiatus for a little bit, but for a good reason: there were no animals at the shelter for adoption!

However, say hello to Chugg, who is our adorable Pet of the Week today.

Chugg came to The Nevada Humane Society in Carson City on the 29th of September, 2020 when he was found as an injured stray.  

They have doctored this shy but sweet boy up and he is ready to find his forever home.  

The Nevada Humane Society reported that during its 3-day adoption event, they adopted out a total of 280 pets between their Carson City and Reno locations.

INCLINE VILLAGE — Maddie’s Pet Project of Nevada is proud to announce Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days happening Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday Sept. 27, 2020. Thanks to funding provided by the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation, all adoption fees are being waived for dogs and cats at participating animal welfare organizations across Nevada during this event.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. Fifteen Carson City non-profits were awarded nearly $800,000 in COVID-19 relief funding via the CARES act during the Board of Supervisor's meeting held Thursday.

The State of Nevada through the CARES Act has allocated over $10 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds “CRF” to Carson City. Carson City’s Preliminary Plan of Expenditure allocated $1 million to be awarded to non-profit organizations located in Carson City.

Each year, the community gathers along the banks of the Truckee River to watch as hundreds of tiny yellow rubber ducks float across the water, and viewers cheer them on.

Adopt a Duck is one of the Nevada Humane Society’s biggest fundraising events of the year, and this year despite COVID-19, it will continue! However, instead of participants gathering on the banks, this year’s event will be live streamed from the Reno Shelter on August 29 at 12 p.m. and will consist of adorable shelter dogs and cats doing adorable activities.
