Sunday, May 15: Things to do around Carson City
If you were looking for a lazy day, today might not be it. Carson City BMX welcomes moms to the track today; their Mother’s Day race was postponed due to the wet weather. Virginia City still has plenty of chili on the menu, in addition to their annual Fun with the Runs 5K. Gardeners will want to head to Douglas High School for the Future Farmers of America plant sale. - Carson City Historic Resources Scavenger Hunt begins: go HERE for packet and info
- Nevada Artists Association Art Exhibit featuring Bill Migan and Photography by Chas. H. McDonnell, III at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-5pm)
- Special Olympics Northern Nevada Aquatics Regional Meet at the Carson Aquatic Center (Opening Ceremonies 8:45am, 9am start; Athletes, coaches, and volunteers need to check-in at 7:30am)
- >"Something in the Wind," celebration of the Washoe Zephyr: expert kite flyers, kite making, crafts for children, wind artists, and more at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch Park: 1450 Hwy 88, Minden (9am-6pm, weather permitting; FREE; bring a picnic, lawn chairs, and your kites; no pets)
- CC BMX Racing AND Mothers’ Day Race at the Livermore (Edmonds) Sports Complex: 1555 Livermore Lane (signups 9am-10am; $10, must be USABMX member; new rider kits available)
- Annual Clean-up of the Pine Nuts Mountains Volunteer Event – Meet on Pine Nut Rd 2, at the first pit on the left, Gardnerville (9am-2pm; bring gloves, trucks, trailers, and plenty of help)
- Breakfast and Bowl at Carson Lanes (9am-12pm; breakfast and unlimited bowling until noon $13, $8 kids 12 and younger)
- Basic Birdwatching at Washoe Lake State Park- Meet in Day Use area (9am-10am, please arrive 10 minutes early; Binoculars and bird guides will be provided; park admission $7 per vehicle, $5 for NV residents)
- Virginia City’s 33rd Annual Chili on the Comstock (10am-4pm; various tasting packages available) and Fun with the Runs 5K (begins at 10am; costumes encouraged)
- DHS Ag Dept presents the FFA Plant Sale at Douglas High School, Minden (10am-2pm)
- 9th Annual Friendship Day at the Ramsden Ranch: 2838 Heybourne Rd, Minden –north off Stephanie Way (10am-4pm; $15 per car, regardless of how many people are in the car; Please bring you favorite potluck dish to share (salad, side or dessert); Hot Dogs, Soda and Water will be available at no charge; Everyone who likes old cars is invited, with new or Old Cars; Stationary Engine Demos, Autos and Antique Collection on Display, Museum Open)
