I left the GOP yesterday, at least, officially. I may have just changed my voter registration to nonpartisan, but I didn’t vote for Trump back in 2016.

The Carson City School District still has space available for early learners under the age of 5. Even though the academic school year is well underway, the pre-kindergarten program is still open for families who qualify under the federal household income guidelines.

The Nevada Secretary of State’s Elections Division provides various tools as a service to voters, such as the Registered Voter Services website and BallotTrax. Because the administration of elections in Nevada is highly decentralized, the tools offered by the Elections Division must take in data from the 17 counties in order to function.

Today is Election Day. In person voting can be done at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Carson City Courthouse is not a polling location for the general election.

If you have forgotten to register or have moved and forgotten to update your voter registration, don’t worry, you can still register and vote tomorrow.

The upcoming 2020 General Election will be a first in the country's history, as it will be a primarily mail-in only election. There has been many sources of misinformation regarding how the election will work, and the Nevada Secretary of State has provided a Myths and Facts sheet to help dispel some of the rumors.

Nevada Democrats have, for years, been fine-tuning their political machine. Two years ago was, perhaps, their best proof of concept. On Wednesday, Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske announced early turnout numbers for the June 9 primary election that is being conducted primarily by mail-in ballot. As of Tuesday, 276,456 of the 1,829,050 ballots mailed to Nevada voters have been cast. An additional 636 voters have cast a ballot in person during the early voting period.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske encourages eligible Nevadans who are not currently registered to vote or who need to update their existing voter registration information to do so before the Thursday, May 21 online deadline in order to receive a mail-in ballot for the June 9, 2020 primary election.

Nevada is trying to conduct its June 9 primary election almost entirely by mail as a way to prevent the spread of COVID-19, with limited options to vote in person. Wayne Thorley, deputy secretary of state for elections, took questions from the public in a Facebook Live town hall on May 11.

Although state and local officials are preparing to conduct the June 9 primary election almost entirely through mail ballots, election officials say they plan to have some form of limited early voting available.

The Carson City School District is asking parents to mark their calendars for Monday, March 2, to begin registering children who will be 5-years-old by Sept. 30, 2020, and eligible for Kindergarten for the coming 2020-2021 school year.

Today, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 is the beginning of a new year, a new decade and also a new set of laws. More than 70 laws enacted by the Nevada Legislature last year take effect either in whole or in part today.

They include several major health care initiatives — including a ban on surprise emergency room bills, a tax on vaping products and a requirement that hospitals use patients’ preferred names and pronouns — as well as laws that will benefit employees, including paid sick leave.
