Summer youth activities in Carson City feature reading challenge, camps and more

Summer is in full swing, and recreational activities around Carson City are starting to return in the near future.

From the Carson City Library’s 2020 Learning Challenge, to archery classes at the Clear Creek Bowman Archery Camp, there are several ways for youth to get outside and enjoy the Silver State.

Below is a list of activities, classes and recreational facilities reopening around town. More events and programs will be added as more information becomes available.

Carson City Library Learning Challenge

From June 13 to July 31, the Carson City Library is hosting its 2020 Summer Learning Challenge for kids of all ages. In this challenge, participants complete a certain number of virtual programs, activities and reading, depending on their age. Prizes are earned for registration and completion, and participants track all their reading time in a simple app. Everyone who registers will be eligible to receive a special take-home kit, with fun activities to log with their reading.

Grand Prize raffle winners will be chosen via online drawing and awarded by age group: 0-5, 6-11, 12-17 and 18 or older. The more virtual programs attended, activities completed and hours read, the more raffle tickets earned. All time tracking and ticket collection is done via an online app called Beanstack.

Last summer, 540 participants read more than 4,600 hours. The Carson City Library is looking to top last year’s number and it is a fun activity for kids to learn along the way. For more information, visit the link herehere.
