I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: Jan. 2-3

It’s the first weekend of the year, and so it’s time for the downtown wine walk. The monthly tradition is a great way to meet others from around town. Kids will want to head to the Community Center for the Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot. The best shooters in the state will advance to the national competition in Chicago for a chance at scholarship money.

SATURDAY:

• Nevada Artists Association Art Exhibit featuring Bob Hickox at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-5pm)
• Coffee and Donuts with EAA Sierra Chapter 403 at 2500 E. College Pkwy (8:30am-12pm, all welcome)
• Free Hoop Shoot hosted by Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 at the Carson City Community Center (Same Day Registration 9am-9:45am, contest 10am-1pm; Contestants shoot 25 free throws, For All Boys and Girls ages 8-13 on April 1, 2016; Registration 775-882-2177 or www.elks.org/hoopshoot.cfm )
• End of the Year Sale: half off storewide at Browsers Corner Bookstore: 911 E. Washington (9:30am-6pm)
• Willow Bill Reindeer Pick-up: Volunteers and Trucks/Trailers needed –Meet in the Starbucks/Dairy Queen Parking Lot at the Hwy 395/88 intersection in Minden (10am; For more info call willow bill at 775-842-3594; wear gloves and bring vice grips and clippers if you have them)
• Family Day at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center: 1477 Hwy 395, Gardnerville (museum open 11am-2pm; free admission today)
• Arlington Square Ice Rink (Sessions 10am-1pm, 2pm-5pm, 6pm-10pm; $7/$5 kids, $3 Skate Rental)
• WARF Cat and Kitten Adoption Event at Petco on Topsy Lane (11am-4pm; all cats are fixed, vaccinated and micro-chipped)
• Downtown Business Association's Wine Walk: sign up at Bella Fiore Wines, the Carson Nugget, Cactus Jacks, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Remedy's Bar, or Touched By Angels (1pm-5pm; $15)
• New Year’s Art Show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery in the Brewery Arts Center (1pm-4pm)
• Teapots and Such: Carson City Historical Society's Teapot Exhibit at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum: 1207 N. Carson St. (1pm-3pm; free admission, donations appreciated)
• Love on a Leash: read to a therapy dog and receive a free book at the Carson City Library (1pm; ages 17 and younger; park at the Community Center or at Smith’s Grocery)
• Wine Tasting at Genoa Candy and Coffee in Carson Lanes (4pm-8pm; $5 for five tastes)

Saturdays are great for star gazing. The observatory at Western Nevada College holds an open house and you can take a look through the telescopes. If you’ve got aspirations to be a star, check out karaoke at the Spoke Bar, Westside Pour House, or Beercade.

It’s the last day before the kids head back to school, so get out and have some fun. Start off with breakfast at the Elks Club and then take the short walk to the ice rink. The Forman-Roberts house is featuring a collection of tea pots, so go take a gander at what the Carson City Historical Society has in store
