Hello fellow anglers! As we welcomed in 2021, many anglers ascended on Topaz Lake to bring in the new year. I and fellow angler Tom Blotter were amongst the many.

At 6 a.m. Tom and I were on the lake waiting for the official start time. There was an eerie fog-like mist lingering over the lake. It was a cool 18 degrees, and the winds were calm. Our first line went into the water at 6:33 a.m. and the first strike came at 7 a.m.

Meanwhile, a duck finds time to skate at Carson City's Empire Ranch Golf Course

Wildlife was seen doing what wildlife does recently at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City. This duck was seen ice skating on a frozen pond.

The weather forecast calls for partly sunny skies to continue today and mostly sunny skies on Thursday. By Thursday night into Friday, winds are expected to pick up, bringing in a slight chance of rain and snow showers.

On Feb. 20, Nevada's own Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche will face off for a live game hosted by Edgewood Tahoe Resort.

Local non-profits GreenUP, FISH join together to address food insecurity in Carson City with food drive

Nonprofits greenUP! and Friends In Service Helping (FISH) are coming together around the topic of food waste and food insecurity this holiday season. It is estimated that a staggering 30-40 percent of all food produced in our country winds up in the landfill.

One solution for reducing waste is to donate extra food to feed the hungry: despite the high volumes of wasted food, over 13 million Americans lack regular access to a meal.

In our state, it is estimated by the Department of Health and Human Services that one in eight Nevadans does not know where their next meal is coming from.
