Ahead for the day includes NNDA's Business Edge breakfast at Carson Valley Inn, A "Lunch and Learn" workshop at Carson Nugget, art showings, a Chautauqua presentation of "Sisters of the Sage" at Dangberg Historic Park, Salsa dancing and more.

Here's what's happening Wednesday:
— NNDA's Business Edge meeting at Carson Valley Inn to feature NV Energy CEO. 7:30 a.m. The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its Business Edge breakfast series Wednesday in Douglas County. The topic is "Powering Business in Nevada" and features NV Energy CEO Doug Cannon. The event runs from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Carson Valley Inn, 1627 U.S. Highway 395 in Minden. — Free Skin Cancer Screening and Lecture Compliments Of Carson Tahoe Health & Wellness Institute. Carson Dermatology on behalf of Carson Tahoe Health & Wellness Institute is offering free skin cancer screenings. Skin cancer is the most prevalent of all cancers. It is estimated that more than one million Americans develop skin cancer every year. Sun avoidance is the best defense against skin cancer. Overexposure to sunlight (including tanning) is the main cause of skin cancer especially when it results in sunburn and blistering. Screenings are by appointment only. Go here to book an appointment.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: New Crop 2019. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, New Crop 2019, by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop. Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E Musser St., Carson City.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Graphically Defined. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) is delighted to present Graphically Defined, a group exhibition of work by seventeen Western Nevada College students. This exhibit includes a wide variety of art including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting and photography that shows the diversity of the students’ creativity. The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. 108 E Proctor St., Carson City.
— Open Studio Painting at the Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. Work on your own paintings from subject matter you chose for yourself. The instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout the class. Students may use oil, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Dry media is also welcome. Bring your own supplies and source materials (such as photographs or drawings you wish to paint). This in an open enrollment drop in class so there is no need to enroll in advance. Classes: 9:00-12:00 or 12:30-3:30. $25 per session or $40 for the day, payment made to instructor. For more details contact the Brewery Arts Center here or by calling 883-1976.
— Nevada Artists Association Judged Photography Show and Summer Show. 10 a.m. The Nevada Artists Association Presents: The 2019 Judged Photography Show and The Members' Summer Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Mondays through Sept. 6. Come and see all the beautiful entries and vote for your top three People's Choice favorites in the Judged Photography Show. The Gallery also offers a wide variety of handcrafted gifts by local artists. We are located at 449 W. King Street at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.
— Status of Women In Nevada group hosts 'Lunch and Learn' workshop for nonprofits. Noon at Carson Nugget. Have you wondered what it takes to create a great non-profit organization? Come to our Lunch and Learn workshop on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 so we can give you some tips to create your new non-profit. The cost is $10 per person and you can pay at the door (cash or check; sorry, no credit cards, please). You'll take home a booklet with a wealth of information to get you started and running your new non-profit. To reserve your seat, call CJ at (775) 241-8508. The cost is $10. A portion of the proceeds to benefit the Status of Women In Nevada.
— Basic Pottery Skills at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. Studio manager, Lucas Lamont, introduces you to clay, in this 6-week open start class, designed to get you started with clay. The syllabus includes pinch pots, coil pots, sculpture, and an introduction to wheel throwing. $175 for 6 week class including open studio times or $45 for drop in classes. 1215 S. Carson St. Carson City.
— Wine and Dine Watercolor Classes. 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Students get a reminder text each week. Drop in basis — no monthly commitment necessary. The event is at Black Bear Diner inside Max Casino, 900 South Carson Street.
— Carson City's Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center. 5 p.m. The Brewery Arts Center campus in Carson City is alive Wednesdays this summer with the best food trucks around for a tasty midweek alternative. Wheeled Food Wednesday returns from 5 to 8 p.m. The BAC will have kid’s activities, plus beer and wine selections for adults. The Brewery Arts Center campus parking lot is at 511 West King Street.
— Chautauqua Presentation: 'Sisters of the Sage' at Dangberg Historic Park. 6:30 p.m. August closes with a Chautauqua presentation “Sisters of the Sage” which will highlight the lives of Annie H. Martin, Lillian V. Finnegan and Anna N. Harris at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, August 28, at 6:30 p.m. These three influential women from the early days of Nevada will meet to reminisce about their early lives, the suffrage movement and their accomplishments as women, in both Carson Valley and Carson City. “Chautauqua is the sharing of history in first person. It has become popular again, especially here in Carson Valley and at Dangberg Historic Park. We invite our guests to come out and meet some of the past influencers of our local area,” said Kim Harris, the park’s events manager. Annie Hudnall Martin is portrayed by accomplished Chautauquan Cindy Southerland. Southerland is also an historian and the author of the book Cemeteries of Carson City and Carson Valley. Lillian Virgin Finnegan is portrayed by accomplished Chautauquan Kim Harris. Additionally, Harris portrays Lizzie A. Borden and several other characters from history. She is also the events manager at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. Anna Norgard Harris is portrayed by accomplished Chautauquan DebiLynn Smith. Smith is also a Civil War Re-enactor and member of the National Pony Express Association, Nevada Division. This event is free to attend. Please bring your own seating to all events and no pets allowed — service animals only. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy as no food or beverages will be sold at this event. The Dangberg ranch house will be open for one hour before the event for anyone who would like an introduction to the park’s history. 1450 Highway 88, Minden.
— Spanish Night, Salsa Dance Lessons in Downtown Carson City. 6 p.m. SALSA Wednesdays located at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio, 315 N. Carson St. Carson City. Classes are 6 pm Intermediate Level Class, 7 pm Beginning Level Class. Just $10 a class. Then after your dance lesson, just for us food and drink specials offered across the street at Battle Born Social! The dance floor is open, music will be playing and you can continue dancing and practicing your dance moves! The Salsa Social will cost NOTHING, only but your support to the restaurant and bar. Help us build us downtown Carson City with more fun activities that the whole family can join!
