NNDA Executive Director to speak at Democratic luncheon

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jeff Sutich, Executive Director of the Northern Nevada Development Authority. NNDA is the state-designated Regional Development Authority for Nevada's Sierra Region: Carson City as well as Storey, Lyon, Douglas, and Mineral counties.

Established in 1981, the Northern Nevada Development Authority is a nonprofit corporation that helps to grow and strengthen the region’s economic ecosystem, and facilitates business-to-business resources to support existing businesses.

NV Energy is replacing power lines across the Sierra. These pictures were captured Wednesday on Timberline Drive in Carson City, just west of Western Nevada College, but there is another effort going on to the south where Highway 50 goes over Spooner Summit.

The Capital City Arts Initiative and Western Nevada College present "Metallum Terrae" an exhibition by Kyle Karrasch in the college’s Bristlecone Gallery, 2201 W College Parkway, Carson City now through Dec. 17, 2020. The gallery is open to the public, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

November Wine Walk, bike tour, craft fair and more highlight weekend events around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The November Gobble Wine Walk kicks off in downtown Carson City followed by a new “Paths and Pedals” bike tour. Recent NV Energy rate changes bring lower bills to Northern Nevada customers

NV Energy northern Nevada electric customers will see their monthly bills lowered by $2.30 a month beginning this month as a result of two rate decreases that went into effect on Oct. 1. This is the fourth time this year that northern Nevada customers have experienced a rate decrease.

NV Energy cancels plan to shut down power Friday in Incline Village

NV Energy said Thursday it is canceling plans to shut off electric power lines Friday as part of a public safety outage management event in Incline Village due to improved weather conditions and an updated forecast.

With gusty winds expected to arrive in the Carson City area, northern Sierra Front and Lake Tahoe region, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag fire weather warning Thursday afternoon through Friday evening.

Goats to graze along Carson City's Clear Creek watershed in fire prevention partnership

NV Energy and Nevada Division of Forestry have partnered to reduce the risk of wildfire in Carson City in the Clear Creek watershed through targeted goat grazing. More than 300 goats from High Desert Graziers in Smith Valley, NV, will be grazing on over 100 acres of private property off of Highway 50 through September and October of 2020 in an extreme wildfire risk area.

NV Energy is urging customers to conserve electricity today between 4 and 9 p.m. in order to help offset energy supply issues caused by record-breaking heat throughout the Western United States. Conservation is the best way to reduce strain on the local power grid.

NV Energy Puts Temporary Savings Above the Safety Of Its Customers and Their Homes (opinion)

To All Northern Nevada Residents, Effective July 1, 2020 NV Energy raised the fees for a customer disconnect/reconnect. From the original application, it is evident that these fees were increased in order to offset the $5 million dollar revenue decrease requested. Now, NV Energy seeks to fulfill an additional $120 million revenue decrease. While this reduction in revenue benefits residential customers in the short-term, the recent request continues to penalize Northern Nevadans from making needed repairs to their homes electrical systems.

Carson City Power Outage affects approximately 100 NV Energy Customers Saturday

A power outage Saturday affected 108 Carson City residents, according to NV Energy.

Several homes and businesses were affected near N. Carson Street. The estimated time of restoration was at 5 p.m. according to NV Energy.

Lyon County Manager: NV Energy retracts rolling blackout information, no blackouts for Silver Springs, Yerington and Smith Valley

UPDATE FROM LYON COUNTY MANAGER 4:10PM: NV Energy has advised that the earlier reported outages will not occur. Lyon County had been informed by the local office of the outages and has retracted the information. Lyon County regrets any difficulties this may have caused, Jeff Page, Lyon County Manager.

Heat advisory extended, thunderstorm threat poses fire concerns for Northern Nevada

A Heat Advisory issued by the National Weather Service for the Carson City area and many valleys of western and west-central Nevada was extended through Wednesday night as the entire region experiences typical yet extremely hot August temperatures, dry conditions, afternoon thunderstorms and the ongoing threat of wildfires.
