White Cane Days, grand opening, pool tournament and more highlight weekend activities around Carson City

Heading into the weeknd, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! Community Goes to Bat for WNC Softball Player

If she didn't know it before, Melanie Pfeiffer learned on Sunday, June 12, just how warm and caring her community really is.

More than 140 participants were part of a 5-K run/walk/jog fundraiser on behalf of the Western Nevada College softball player who is battling melanoma skin cancer. The event raised $5,000 for Pfeiffer, who is without medical insurance. El Charro Avitia Restaurant in Carson City hosted the race venue and fed the participants afterward.
