Carson City goes full-board live music with Jazz and Beyond Music Festival in August
The summer sizzles as the Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses and jazz lovers proudly present the 2012 "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival, an annual event that began in August 2004. Performances at multiple venues in Carson City will feature more than 100 musicians in over 50 bands, Aug. 3-19 and are mainly free. Music styles include Dixieland jazz, big band, bluegrass, Latin, blues and folk.
Outstanding musicians will play at Third Street, the Farmers Market, Comma Courtyard, Carson Mall, the Brewery Arts Center, the Legislative Plaza and Capitol Amphitheater and Plan: b microlounge in Carson City.
Featured big bands are the Reno Jazz Orchestra with Cami Thompson and the Mile High Jazz Band. Other performers include Atomika, Barbara Baxter, The Champagne Singers and Andrews Sisters Act, Colin Ross with Frank Falcione, Pat Esters, GrooveSession, Impromptu Quintet, The Jazz Guys, Johnny Hamlin Trio, Kevin Reed, The Millennium Bugs, New World Jazz Project, Q234 trio, John and Cherie Shipley, Slow Djinn Fez with Sapphira, Solid Jackson, STRAZZ Youth Strings Jazz Ensemble, Tristan Selzler and Two Plus quintet.
Jazz & Beyond will open with a "Garden Party at the Mansion," a ticketed event at the Governor's Mansion on Friday, August 3, 5:30 p.m. Admission features music by the incomparable vocalist Jakki Ford and her band Finesse, finger foods, wine, and a raffle. Special events are a Guitar Summit at the Brewery Arts Center on August 12; bluegrass-, jazz-, and Latin-themed Sunday brunches at the Carson Mall; an ice-cream social at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum and live music during the Wine Walk, August 4.
