Jazz and Beyond seeks volunteers for annual Carson City music festival
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 06/02/2013 - 2:33pmThe "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" committee is seeking volunteers, sponsors, and program advertisers for the 10th annual festival, August 2-18.
The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers. It features more than 100 world class, regional musicians in over 40 performances and special programs at multiple venues in Carson City’s historic district, near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Beyond jazz, it includes bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

Outdoors with Don Q: Having fun, again, in Southern California

1. To celebrate our 11th Wedding Anniversary (March 30).
2. To visit my cousin Lorraine Scholes and her husband Bob, who have a winter home in Indio.
3. To attend our first-ever "Palm Springs Follies" show in Palm Springs.
4. To fly from Indio to Big Bear (our first-ever visit there).

Carson City Symphony to present 'A Celebration in Two Sharps' featuring acclaimed cellist

The Carson City Symphony, conducted by David Bugli, will perform "A Celebration in Two Sharps" on Sunday, April 28, 4 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street. Guest soloist Stephen Framil will play the Cello Concerto by Antonín Dvořák.
The program also features Wagner's Overture to "Rienzi" and Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony. All three compositions are associated with keys having two sharps, D major and B minor.

bass and/or guitar from Cindy Gray, faculty member of the
“Steve Kaufman Acoustic Camp” in Maryville, Tennessee.
Learn to play “mountain music” on your instrument, so that
you can join-in on the many bluegrass and/or old time jam
sessions that take place in our area. All students will receive
individualized training.

Kaukonen, a founding member of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, is one of the most highly respected interpreters of Americana, Blues and American roots music. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy his music in an intimate, up close setting. The show begins at 8:00pm, doors open at 7 pm.

October 18, 2012 - 8:00pm At the age of 14, years after requisite piano lessons - and discovering he didn't like the discipline required - Jorma Kaukonen discovered guitar and found it was his instrument.
The now Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, founding member of iconic rock band The Jefferson Airplane and of long-touring band Hot Tuna and legendary guitarist in his own right, plays High Sierra Brewing Company, Thursday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. in a show produced by Chili Bop Entertainment.

Introduction to Acoustic Music and Singing (For ages 6 and up)

August 6, 2012 (All day) This series will introduce traditional acoustic music styles through instruments and voice.
Students will follow the development of genres such as the blues, bluegrass, Celtic music, gospel, jazz, Latin, and traditional folk music through presentations and demonstrations. Participants will be able to try out a variety of acoustic instruments. Songs will be selected by the group for a short recital at the end of the week.
Tuition: $95 ($85 for siblings and BAC Members)
Hours: 9:00 to 11:30 am Mon-Fri
Dates: Session I: June 18-22
