There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

Heading into Tuesday, August 13, there's a galaxy of events lined up, beginning at midnight with a meteor shower watch party at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory. When the sun arrives there's fitness events, a book talk at the Nevada State Library and Archives, outdoor Carson City jazz festival happenings at Comma Coffee and Bob McFadden Plaza, family movie night at the library and more. In this edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with David Bugli with the Mile High Jazz Band Association to talk about Carson City Jazz and Beyond 2019.

Due to heavy smoke settling on the area, the RoseBud's Dance Band's performance for Monday, Aug. 6, as part of the Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival has been moved to inside the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. The concert was originally planned for Comma Courtyard, but the performers want to present the event in a comfortable and healthy atmosphere.

Carson kids have one last week to lay about, while their neighbors in Douglas and Lyon County are headed back to school. Jazz and Beyond continues with some fun times downtown. Me and Bobby McGee will appear in the Comma Courtyard, followed by the Rosebud Dance Band in the McFadden Plaza. The Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival concludes with nine events on Saturday, August 22, and four events on Sunday August 23.

Music in the Market – Barbara Baxter - 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Third & Curry St. Farmer's Market. Barbara Baxter sings soul-laced jazz with Jimmy Vermilion on piano.

The 2015 Carson City Jazz and Beyond music festival heats up Thursday with multiple performances around town to hit all the right notes and music styles with piano jazz, blues, roots and smooth jazz at three different venues.

A highlight of the 2015 Jazz & Beyond Festival will be a two-part Motown special. First is a free lecture-demonstration by musician-educator John Shipley. It will feature music, visuals, a guitar raffle, a no-host bar, and a guest appearance by Lloyd Williams of Otis Day and the Knights on Monday, August 17, at the Brewery Arts Center.

The second part of the Motown special is a ticketed concert showcasing Williams, the original singing voice from the hit movie Animal House, on Tuesday, August 18, 7 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

The weekend is getting an early start. Carson Valley Days in Gardnerville kicks off with their Lampe Park carnival, and Dangberg Historic Ranch Home off Highway 88 hosts the first of their Twilight Concerts with Ciana. You can meet Author Laura Lea White at the Browser’s Corner Book Shop tonight; copies of her book ‘Generational Gifts: The Legacy of Evelyn Marie’ will be available. Silver Dollar Cruise Night is at Dunkin' Donuts; every Thursday through summer you'll find hot rods, street racers, and cool old cars at a different location.

The Jazz and Beyond Festival, Aug. 1-17 in Carson City, embraces numerous artists and highlights various venues in and around the Capital City and includes such genres as: Bluegrass, Blues, Middle-Eastern music and much more.

The styles of musical interpretations are as unique as the settings — offering exciting experience for all to enjoy. Last year, the festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers. Event Promoters expect to once again exceed the expectations of attendees with an amazing lineup.

Get ready for an exciting summer of music when the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival takes place, August 1-17. The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.

Last year, the Jazz and Beyond Festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers, and organizers hope to match that accomplishment this year. Most performances are presented free to the public. Beyond jazz, the festival included bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

Featured Band: Coming together from a variety of local projects and backgrounds, the five members of UNDER THE RADAR have created a composite tone that provides a niche sound of Jazz/Funk/Rock/Blues.

The summer will sizzle in blue hot notes this August in Carson City as the Mile High Jazz Band Association, local businesses, and music lovers prepare for "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival."
