Jazz! Carson City Music Festival 2011 Runs Through August
CARSON CITY, Nev. — With the heat of summer sizzling in the Central Valley, August in Nevada's capital city has earned the distinction as the place to cool down and mellow out as the Mile High Jazz Band Association and several local businesses team up for the 8th annual August Jazz Festival.
Jazz! Carson City Music Festival 2011 (http://jazzcarsoncity.com) is set for multiple venues in Carson City, and will feature at least 50 performances, with more than 100 musicians in over 35 bands. Main events are scheduled for August 19-21, with lead-in performances starting July 31. All events are free, except for a ticketed event at the Bliss Mansion on Aug. 13.
Regional and international jazz artists will play local spots at Third Street, the Farmers Market, Comma Courtyard, Firkin & Fox, Plan B Microlounge, the Brewery Arts Center, the Carson Mall, the Legislative Plaza and Capitol Amphitheater, and other venues in Carson City. A jazz film mini-festival, a jazz greats forum and a guitar summit will take place Thursday evenings at the Brewery Arts Center.
Featured annual performers are Reno Jazz Orchestra with Cami Thompson on Aug. 21, and the Mile High Jazz Band. Other performers include Back Forty, Barbara Baxter, CeCe Gable, The Champagne Singers, Colin Ross, Discover Music (from the Reno Philharmonic), jam sessions at Firkin & Fox, the Gents of Jive, George Hanepen Trio with Shanna Carlson, The Jazz Guys, the Johnny Hamlin Trio, Ken Davidson, Linda Merrell with Blue Jasmine, The Millennium Bugs, New World Jazz Project, Rocky Tatarelli & Judith Ames, Slow Djinn Fez, Statusphere, STRAZZ Youth Strings Jazz Ensemble and Two Plus quintet.

The Mile High Jazz Band Association formed in 2001 as a nonprofit corporation to support the MHJB and its subgroup, the Millennium Bugs (jazz combo), promote live jazz performance in Northern Nevada, educate the public about jazz, and enrich the cultural life of the community. Member benefits include mailings, discounts on admissions, and invitations to special events, plus the satisfaction of helping big-band jazz to thrive.
