Don Q's Nevada and Sierra fishing report for Aug. 7-14

Here is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, Northern California, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra. This report is for the week of Aug. 7-14.

BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF:
Rick and Patti Apted - Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425) (www.lakesabrinaboatlanding.com) reports:
Lake Sabrina:
8-4-13
It’s been pretty darn quiet at the Lake for August – seems more like the end of September. We’re keeping the Café opened on the weekends with our normal menu including homemade pie and homemade ice cream and the store opened during the week for cold drinks, snacks, ice and tackle.

We had another visit from our ‘friendly neighborhood bear’ on Tuesday (seems he’s on a week & a half visiting schedule) – the gut can was turned over and the freezer door was wide open when Rick got up. The bald eagles are still entertaining those taking a walk to the back of the Lake.

Fishing in deeper water (that would be behind what is normally the Island or taking a bit of a hike to at least the front of the back natural Lake) with Nightcrawlers or Power Bait.

Fishing the inlets with a fly and a bubble, Nightcrawlers, Power Bait or Lures are getting limits.
Got a good load of stockers from the Department of Fish and Game last Monday. They’ll keep stocking as long as they can get to the water – not sure how much longer.

Had a couple of fish in the three pound range caught during the week – both on Nightcrawlers – Lorna Remyn of Orange landed a 3-3/4 pounder while Lance Benson of Lucerne Valley pulled in a 3-1/4 pounder.
Well, we found out that big piece of equipment is to pull cables to tighten up the cement on the bridge making it a pre-tension bridge. They poured a brown curb and are now pouring the guard rails. Down at the construction supply area (at the North Lake road), there is a piece of the rock forms that they stained to blend into the area – this bridge is going to look pretty darn awesome by the time it’s completed.
That date for the bridge is still set for the end of September.

We did have a bit of the smoke from the Aspen fire in the canyon this week – when the wind blew from the north – right up the valley it came – when the wind shifted – back down the valley it went. It’s still a tad bit on the smokey side – but that should be clearing up as the fire becomes more contained. This week’s temps are expected to be in the low-50s for the lows and in the mid-70s for the highs. You can check NOAA’s website at http://www.weather.gov and enter ASPENDELL, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather up at the Lake or check in with Howard at www.MammothWeather.com.

Remember when using the bug juice and SANITIZER you need to really wash your hands before fishing - then rub some Salmon Egg juice, worm dirt or Anglers Bros Trout attractant to take that smell off.
Also, remember your polarized dark glasses and sunscreen.

If you happen to come by and see a ‘CLOSED – GONE FISHIN’ sign on the door (during the week), it’s because we haven’t had a car in the lot for at least an hour or two – hope you understand the closed sign – the fish are calling. Bryan will be here during the week periodically to give us a chance to get off the mountain.

BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF:
Jared Smith - Parchers Resort (760-873-4177) (sierrasmitty@cebridge.net):
South Lake:
No reports from South Lake this week. The lake continues to drop a few feet a week thanks to Los Angeles DWP denying Southern California Edison a variance on water allotments from the Bishop Creek Canyon.
Instead, Los Angeles Department of Water & Power has chosen to drain the Bishop Creek Canyon reservoirs to the lowest summer levels on record making it impossible for us to stock fish or provide recreational opportunities at the lake this year.
South Lake Landing is closed for the season.
South Fork Bishop Creek:
The vast majority of anglers did really well in the creek this week, mostly on Power bait, nightcrawlers, and Panther Martins.
Top fish of the week was caught by Richie Cranmer from San Pedro with a solid 3.43lb Rainbow caught near Willow Campground on a gulp worm.
With the situation pretty rough up at South Lake, we’re really excited to see how good the stream fishing is this year - kudos to the DFW for keeping the creek loaded with fish.
Weir Pond:
Weir is loaded with fish right now and anglers have been having tremendous success on lures, flies and bait. The inlet has been best but any of the deeper pockets and weed edges are holding fish. Folks are finding plenty of Brookies and Browns mixed in with the stocker Rainbows.
The midsummer water is actually warm enough for some to wade in without having to wear waders.
Intake II:
Only a few reports from the Intake this week but all was good according the folks we spoke with. The usual suspects are working best, worms, Power bait, Thomas Buoyant.
North Lake:
North was the hot spot of the canyon this week with nearly everyone we talked to having success from shore or float tube. Nothing big reported this week but limit style fishing was the norm for most using Power bait, Gulp Pinched Crawlers or nightcrawlers.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707)
www.kenssport.com) reports:
Bridgeport has been pretty tough this past week, not too many trout showing up but there are some nice perch being caught! The trout that have been caught this week are being taken on mice tails and crawlers, bumping them along the bottom with a sliding sinker rig, the perch are mainly being taken trolling with small Rapalas. We're looking forward to the weather cooling down, the algae going away and the fishing getting better!!

CARSON RIVER, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Very low water conditions. Very few places to fish.

CHETCO RIVER, ORE:
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (800-720-ODWF) (www.dfw.state.or.us.com) reports:
The Chetco River mainstem upstream of the power lines (RM 2.2) will close Aug. 1 through Nov. 1.
Tributaries remain open for trout fishing per the zone regulations.

CONVICT LAKE AND CONVICT CREEK, CALIF:
Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) (www.convictlake.com) reports:
Hello Convict Lake fishing report followers!
It's been two weeks and the report is back.
I had a great back country trip. I fished a few excellent lakes and landed some nice back country Brookies. I also hooked a few small Goldens.
But nothing compares to the large rainbows that come out of Convict Lake.
Talking with the guys at the marina, it seems the lake and the creek has continued to fish well, even with our warm summer days.
Catch of the Week:
Congratulations to Gary Dohman of San Clemente, CA who landed a stout 3 pound and 4 ounce rainbow.  Steve hooked this toad with a Needlefish while trolling. Way to go Gary!
Other Notable catches this week:
Jackson Norris of Valley Center, CA caught his first fish while visiting Convict Lake. Jackson was using Power bait while fishing at the Inlet.
Great Job Jackson!
Michael and Marley Dunford of Rancho Cucamonga, CA ended a good day at the lake with a 6 fish stringer. They were using Power bait and were fishing at the South Shore.
Tactics/Bait:
As we enter the hot August days, the fish will move deeper so you are going to have to follow suit.
The most successful Power bait colors were orange and salmon peach.
Red/gold Thomas Bouyants, Power Worms and Powerbait Mice Tails were also very productive.
The Inlet and the South Shore were the hot spots this week.
As stated in an earlier report, you can never go wrong with inflated nightcrawlers. Set up your rod with about a 3 foot leader (2-3 lb) and try to fish adjacent to the shelf.
Use a clear bobber filled with water in order to be stealthier.
The creek has also been fishing well and was stock this week.
Other locations to try are the North Shore, Jetty, Outlet, West Shore, Creek, Handicap Pier and Hangman's Tree.
Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive:
Trout Teasers, green or brown Marvel Fly Lures, Panther Martin, Needlefish, Thomas Bouyants, Green Wooly Booger and Lip RIpperz Hatchery Dust on Power bait.
Other Resources: View our Convict Lake Fishing Map and Fishing Rig Suggestion  brochures. Both brochures are available in the General Store.
Derby News:
JUST ONE MONTH AWAY!!!  The Ambush at the Lake Fishing Derby will be starting on Monday, September 2nd for a chance to win $6,000 in Resort Prizes! Also mark your calendars for the Morrison's Cash Bonus Weekend on November 1-3. $2000 in cash prizes.
Weather:
Still dealing with some smoke from the Aspen fire which is 55% contained as of 8/3. The forecast for next week has the highs in the mid-70s. Lows in the high-40s. There is always the potential for afternoon thunderstorms during the summer months. Here is the National Weather Service link that is usually quite accurate: 7-Day Forecast Convict Lake.
Sunrise - Sunset:
Sunrise this week 6:01 am - 6:06 am and Sunset 8:03 pm - 7:57 pm.
Stocking:
DFG stocked the lake on July 31th and the creek on the week of July 29th. Alpers were stocked on July 25th.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Fishing was a bit slower last week. Some decent action in Hilton Bay.
Try Stevie's Wonder  gray/black in 8-10 feet of water.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF:
Kent Rianda of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
Water conditions:
Water temp: Water temp has soared to near 70° F on the bottom across the lake. Algae is almost non-existant.
WARNING-The lake is much lower than previous years.
Watch out for Pelican Point which sticks out way into the lake.
Look for white buoys and pass to the east.
Also the islands just north of there are popping out. Watch for buoys and go slow coming in when it is rough as buoys are small and tough to see in chop.
Fishing conditions:
Good to Excellent. Fish are on the move trying to find that little colder water. McGee has slowed on big fish and Green Banks is now the place.
Be ready to move from day to day.
Almost more Browns and Cutthroats than Rainbows everywhere.
The high water temps and resulting low oxygen are making for exhausted fish that should not be taken out of the water even briefly.
I am speaking of even the little guys and the bigger fish are much worse.
If you need a photo, take it in the net. 30 seconds out of the water is a death sentence no matter how long you revive afterwards.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF:
Jim and Jeannie of the J &J's Grizzly Store and Camping Resort (530-832-0270) (www.grizzlystore.portola-ca.com) report:
July 29, 2013
See the great picture on our FACEBOOK page of Wally Wright from Ridgecrest, CA. and his great fish!  He caught them at Mallard Cove this morning from 5:30 to 9:00. All 16 inch.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR, LINCOLN COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Recent thunderstorms have added water to the reservoir but made for turbid conditions. Fishing has slowed down as a result. Rainbow trout are still taking nightcrawlers and Power Bait, and are averaging 11 to 13 inches in length. Anglers continue to catch bass on night crawlers and lures.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR, LINCOLN COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Water levels have risen slightly due to local rain activity. The shoreline has gotten weedy, but anglers are catching crappie, bass and some trout while using worms, small spinners and jigs.

FALL RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
The Hex hatch is weak but is still present, and will last until the beginning of August. That being said, fishing has still been great and the Callibaetis hatches are going strong around midday.
The conditions and potential of the river is expected to become even better in August and part of September so keep that in mind!

FEATHER RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
No substantial changes from last week. Salmon season is in full swing and fishermen have reported catching fish between ten and twenty-five pounds. It is recommended to use quikfish, spinners and jigs.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Wiggin’s Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-993-4683) reports:
Fishermen continue to do well at Frenchman Lake. We have received good reports from various spots on the lake this past week.
Chris Baro and his sons from Chilcoot caught 2 limits of rainbows on Wednesday, July 31st using Wee Dick Nites while trolling 30 ft deep from the narrows south. Their fish measured up to 18 inches each.
On Saturday, August 3rd Scott reported catching several 18 inch rainbows using rainbow powerbait while fishing off the bank about 40 feet deep.
James from Reno caught 2 nice sized rainbows on 08/05/13 using nightcrawlers while bank fishing to the right of the dam.
We also had a report of someone catching 8 rainbows and one catfish at Snallygaster and Bob Parry from Chilcoot reports that fishing from a boat near the dam has been great using powerbait and worms.
Call us for updates - Wiggin’s Trading Post (530) 993-4683.

HAT CREEK, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Conditions are great and are expected to stay that way through August.
Reports indicate good fishing up and down the river but some fishermen have reported only fair fishing some days.
The good news is that midday Callibaetis hatches are going on, not large hatches, but just enough to draw in more fish to the surface.
The AM and sunset hours are always a good time to fish, especially with midge nymph patterns in #18-22.
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

HOT CREEK, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Water flow is  down to 6 CFS. Fishing is good but the heavy weed growth makes it a challenge. Some Tricos in the am, BWO's around mid day.
Best results with nymphs. Buckskin nymphs, caddis pupa and small pheasant tails. Some decent dry fly fishing in the afternoon with CDC caddis and Hot Creek caddis.

HOT CREEK, CALIF:
Kent Rianda of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
Water conditions:
Flows at 8 CFS as of 8/1. Clear-weedy
Fishing conditions:
Good. Fish the deeper sections and along the bank. Nymphing will be a little difficult at this time because of the low flows and high weeds.

JIGGS / ZUNINO RESERVOIR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Unfortunately, Jiggs has dried up.

JUNE LAKE LOOP, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Grant - Gull - June - Silver Lakes and Rush Creek:
Silver Lake still seems to be the best for float tube fly rodders fishing black or purple woolly buggers on full sink lines doing well.
Rush Creek flow is 26cfs.
Royal coachmen, elk hair caddis, prince nymphs and copper Johns.

KIRMAN LAKE, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
August 04, 2013
We've had a couple OK reports from Kirman this week, it sounds like the fly anglers have had a tough go of it but the spin anglers fishing with mini jigs have been doing better. It sounds like the average half day on the water is producing only 1 or 2 fish per angler but they're pretty nice fish, brookies up to 18 inches and cutts up to around 22".

KLAMATH RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Conditions are poor as the water is very warm right now and moss has filled the lake, fouling your flies and leaders quickly. Finding some rainbows will be a rare event but every so often you’ll see some near the surface eating prince nymphs at this time of year
Expect better reports to come around September.
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The boat ramp is closed and the reservoir is quickly receding.
Fish will actually be concentrated and the persistent angler can catch a lot of fish over the next few weeks.

LAUGHTON, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Colorado River:
The striper bait is slow but rainbow trout are providing anglers with good action. A pair of anglers recently checked in with bows pushing past the four-pound threshold. Trout are biting in the Davis Camp area, along Casino Row and near Rotary Park.

LEWISTON LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
As any chance of dry fly only happens in the morning and a small Callibaetis hatch takes place in the midday, the lake has potential for good fishing. As even more warm, summer days take place expect slightly worse conditions. The bite usually dies down around 3:30 PM already, but some anglers report good fishing in the late evening.
Nymphs and wet flies, such as CB Frostbites in #18 or Zebra Midges in #18-20, have shown good results.
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

MAMMOTH LAKES BASIN, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:

Water conditions:
Clear.
Fishing conditions:
Good. Dry fly fishing will be more affective in the early morning and in the evening. Match the hatch.
During the days, a float tube is recommended to pull streamers. be sure to use a some kind of sink line or a Rio sinking Versi-tip leader.

LAKE MEAD, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
In recent weeks Spinnows have been the lure of choice for many striper anglers, according to Angel at Laker Plaza. This lure has been very productive when jigging in up to 60 feet of water.
Those fishing the backs of coves have also had success with largemouth bass. A variety of swimbaits have been effective for these fish.
The best fishing is found during the early morning and evening hours.

LAKE MOHAVE, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Anglers have had success fishing out of Cottonwood Cove.
Just to the south and on the Arizona side of the lake, largemouth bass have been hitting on just about any crayfish imitation.
These bass have been hanging back in the coves in 20 to 30 feet of water.
Just north of Cottonwood, anglers have been catching striped bass while throwing cut anchovies.
At Willow Beach, those fishing from the shore have had success using A.C. Plugs and other trout imitations with a few stripers pushing past the 20-pound mark.

Owens River Gorge:
Water conditions:
Great. 40 CFS as of 8/1.
Fishing conditions:
Alright. Since summer is upon us make sure to watch ur step for those long, fanged creatures. Take plenty of bug spray.
Pleasant Valley Reservoir:
Water conditions:
Water level is high.
Fishing conditions:
Water is high due to activity by DWP. Since the lake is high most of the fish have moved into the stream section of the lake.
Rock Creek:
Water conditions:
31 CFS as of 8/1. Clear!!
Fishing conditions:
Because of the busy weekend the creek and the lake has been hit pretty hard. Not saying you get in some fish but might have to look harder to see fish.
Rush Creek:
Water conditions:
Good. 28 CFS as of 7/24 below Grant Lake to Hwy 395. 28 CFS as of 7/24 in between Silver Lake and Grant Lake.
Fishing conditions:

PIT RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
While the fishing has been good this week, the best conditions for the Pit are coming up soon in August with the isonychia the rainbows eat. In the meantime, it is advised to move around and remain static on the water.
The fish start to pick up around 9:00 AM and using Adams #14-18 and other dry flies has had good results.
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

SACRAMENTO RIVER (LOWER), CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Fishing has been either fair or tough due to high flows. The best fishing has been in the early AM hours and then later in the evening when the fish have one last hurrah. Lots of report indicate big rainbows going for emerging cadis at sundown. If the flows remain stable expect some good fishing, but if not, be prepared for some light fishing.

SPOONER LAKE, DOUGLAS CLOUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Anglers have reported good fishing with power bait eggs with garlic scent.
The weed bed continues to be a problem around Spooner Lake. If anglers do find an opening they should have some success.
A water craft such as a float tube or kayak is the key to unlocking this lake’s hold on fishing.
Fly anglers continue to have had luck using black, brown, and green Wooly Buggers. For fly anglers, a floating line this time of year is all you need. Later in the year anglers will need to transition to an intermediate line for deeper presentation.

LAKE TAHOE:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Limits have been easy and the fish are running of 1 to 5 pounds with some breaking into the double digits.
Best method is still minnow dodger set up in 150 to 200 ft.

Kokanee are showing up in good number try using plugs and Vances sockeye slammer number 2.

TOPAZ LAKE:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing continues to be slow. Topaz boating activity has increased and fishing is only good in the early morning hours.
Boat anglers should try using Rapalas and night crawlers behind dodgers.
Shore fishermen have had some success using Power Bait, Power Eggs, salmon eggs, and night crawlers.

TRINITY RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
No changes from last week. Conditions are great and so is the fishing! There are lots of ½ pound steelhead and spring-run King Salmon flowing through so expect a lot of hook-ups too. Also, be aware that King Salmon will go for nymphs suspended under indicators!

TRINITY RIVER, CALIF:
Kirk and Lisa Portocarrero at outdooradventures@sacriverguide.com and www.sacriverguide.com (1-800-670-4448) report:
August, 2013 Fishing report
Currently, Water is at 450 CFS.
Trinity River Salmon fishing and steelhead fishing has begun! Fishing for salmon is slow, water really low. There are a few fish being caught, we will see number increase as the weeks go on.
Methods of fishing will be bouncing roe and pulling plugs.
Please give us a call to reserve your day on the water.
Trinity River fishing is conveniently located 40 minutes West of Redding, CA  fishing from the town of Weaverville, California.

TRUCKEE RIVER, WASHOE COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
If you are going to fish on the Nevada side of the river then it is crucial to fish in the mornings.
The combination of low water, hot days and lots of people in the river in the afternoons is really making the fishing tougher than normal.
Flows are: Reno 298 CFS and Vista (East of Town) 178 CFS.
For traditional anglers this time of year floating salmon eggs, Power Bait and imitating bait fish work well.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:

Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
August 04, 2013
The Twins have really livened up this week, the trolling has been the best thing going lately. Lots of fish in the 1 and 2 pound range with some tipping the scales at around 3.5!
Small Rapalas, needlefish and thomas bouyants have been the main lures to fish. Earlier in the mornings and later in the evenings if the wind isn't blowing too hard are the times to be out there.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
August 05, 2013
The Virginias have done well this past week, lots of nice fishing being caught up there by fly as well as spin anglers. Fly anglers are using soft hackles, buggers, matukas, beetles and ants. Spin anglers are using power bait, crawlers, kastmasters and thomas bouyants.
Don't forget about Big V and Trumbull when you go up there, they're doing almost as well as Little V and can be a bit less crowded.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF:
John and Carolyn Webb of the Virginia Lakes Resort (760-647-6484) ( HYPERLINK "mailto:vir@qnet.com" vir@qnet.com) report:
Here's my Fishing Report for VLR for this week.....carolyn
August 3, 2013
Mother Nature came through with welcome cooling for this elevation with no prediction of moisture through most of next week so we can expect temperatures to be in the range of 67 to 71 degrees.
The parking lots of both Virginia’s have been full most of the week except for a few hours early in the morning, and the creek was stocked this week by DFW and everyone was walking out with stringers and a lot of really nice fish.  DFW stocked ten additional trophies along with the  normal plant.

Bait for the week:
Salmon eggs and Nightcrawlers with natural garlic power bait, salmon peach and garlic rainbow glitter were all working well.  Trout were also hitting power worms, and a lot of power bait set-ups using a pinch of marshmallow a salmon egg and a hunk-ah-hunk of burning worm.

Lures: Still working are Red/Gold Thomas Buoyant’s, Kastmasters, plain gold spoons.  Various rainbow colored anything did fairly well along with red/gold Hot Shots showing great action for most of the week.

Fly: Action was good on olive woolly buggers, Virginia Lake special, also try bead head nymphs, caddis emergers, Rickard’s callibaetis nymph, large black ants, multi-tails, AP nymphs in olive, San Juan worms, Grey Hackle yellow’s and green body mosquitoes.

Backcountry:
Is good for brook trout with black gnats, Adams, and Griffith’s Gnats from Blue Lake up through Cooney, and the Frogs are hit and miss but very small due to the high volume of anglers in the area.
Both Moat and Red Lake were hitting a lot of dries on a bubble and a fly and also a fly rod but again nothing big.
The mosquitoes:
Are still around but not on the hunt as before but I would still BRING THE DEET. See you on the water.

WALKER LAKE, MINERAL COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
No new updates. No Lahontan cutthroat have been reported or seen at Walker Lakes since 2009.
Launching is not possible right now.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The flows on the East Walker are 81 CFS. They have been in this range for a while now. This is really low for the summer months on the East Walker and the flows have played a big part of the river getting very warm.
If you are going to the East Walker start very early and quit fishing by 11:00am. To get out of the heat.
In the mornings try Nymphing with small bugs like caddis, Trico’s and Midges on no more than 5X tippet is a good bet. Dry dropper rigs are also worth a try. You can fool the occasional fish on Hopper patterns through the next month or more. The fish should be hanging out in or near some type of white water to get more oxygen.
Current brown trout study is going on and researchers are requesting information on tagged fish including color (to determine if wild or hatchery) and location where fish was caught.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
East Walker River:
The East is hanging in there at 68 CFS today.
We've had some pretty cool nights this past week, 2 nights were below freezing, this is helping out the temps on the river quite a bit.
We're still just mainly fishing it in the mornings and late evenings and trying to give it a rest during the heat of the day.
The Tricos are still coming off a bit in the morning if it's not too cold, then it's caddis and midges for the rest of the morning and the evening.
The Nevada side is also fishing well, dry/dropper rigs have been good as well as a dead drift crayfish and straight nymphing.
Patterns to try include drowned trico, top secret midge, flashback emerger, silver streak, rainbow warrior, copper john, para hopper, stimulator, elk hair caddis, e/c caddis, fox's poopah, buckskin caddis lafontaines sparkle pupa.
Sceirine Ranch:
August 04, 2013
The ranch fished excellent this week, Scott reported his clients getting into 30+ fish a day down there. Dry/dropper rigs and dead drift crayfish were the main ticket on the ranch this week!
Hunewill Pond:
August 04, 2013
The pond is pretty weedy right now though we did have one guest who was able to bag a dozen or so fish during a couple hour stretch in the morning. You need to keep your bugs high in the water column to keep out of the weeds but they're still feeding!
Seal buggers, stillwater nymphs and soft hackles were the ticket.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Water flow has been up and down and is currently 70 CFS. Fishing  is good in the early am and last hour of day light. The fish have been shutting down during the mid day hours.
Midge patterns, baetis emergers and pheasant tails.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, CALIF:
Kent Rianda of The Trout Fly and Troutfitter (760-934-2517) (www.thetroutfitter.com) reports:
Water conditions:
Flows up to 69 CFS as of 8/1.
Fishing conditions:
Sloooooow. Flows have dropped dramatically, raising the water temp. Only fish in the early, early morning or late, late evening. If you must fish this place stick around the dam area.
PLEASE Do not over play the fish! get them in and release quickly!!!!

WALKER RIVER, WEST, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
August 04, 2013
The West is still fishing excellent! The water is low and clear so you may find that you have to walk past some water to find the deeper pools where there are fish hanging out, but it'll be worth the walk.
Fly anglers are using hopper/dropper rigs and having great success, bait anglers are using salmon eggs, crawlers and power eggs. Lure fishermen are having good luck with mepps, panther martins and rooster tails.

WILLOW BEACH, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Anglers are finding good action for large stripers. The fish are biting A.C. Plugs and other trout-imitating swimbaits. Three fish weighing in at 16.16 pounds, 17 pounds and 27.76 pounds came in during the past week. Rainbow trout continue to hit small spinners and other traditional trout baits following the weekly plants on Fridays.
