This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Franktown Apples in Washoe Valley is hosting apple picking Friday through Sunday. In celebration of National Public Lands Day, Nevada State Parks will have a fee-free day on Saturday filled with hikes and tours. Combined with live music and dinner at local restaurants, the weekend will be filled with excitement! Read on for more information.

If you haven't come out to see the Brewery Arts Center's Flatbed Concert Series this summer, this Saturday is your last chance! The BAC will be bringing the rock band "Silver" to the West Side of Carson City beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The next event, on Sunday, September 13, features Niall McGuinness & the New World Jazz Project playing soul, Latin, and world jazz from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The five-piece band, including reeds, keyboard, bass, drums, and percussion, will be live-streamed from Empire Ranch Golf by A to Zen Media.

This Saturday, Sept. 12, the BAC is proud to present New Wave Crave. As if they were took a time machine from the 80’s, the party begins the moment these four talented musicians hit the flatbed.

Miles Construction Company has generously donated the use of a Flatbed Truck and with financial support from The Change Companies, the Nauman Foundation, and Carson Tahoe Hospital, all summer the BAC has placed musicians and bands on the flatbed and driven them through the streets and neighborhoods of Carson City and now the fun goes into September.

LAKE TAHOE — A new control tool for aquatic invasive plants that clog waterways, reduce water clarity and provide cover for other invasive species at Lake Tahoe continues to show impressive results in its third year of testing. The tool is a light array mounted under a working barge, which trolls through the marina dousing the plants on the lake bottom with ultraviolet-C light.

The ENA recognizes just 25 emergency departments worldwide that exemplify exceptional practice and innovative performance in the core areas of leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.

Emerald Bass is a collective of local “bass Dj’s and Producers” based out of Lake Tahoe. Throughout the year, they often throw parties and music concerts that attract crowds of music and art lovers.

The Mile High Jazz Band Association recently produced a video, "Virtual Jazz & Poetry: Running Out." The video contains six short acts, each consisting of the reading of a poem and the performance of a related piece of music.

Hello fellow anglers. It is the fourth of July weekend and many areas have opened up for camping and fishing in our area. Due to extreme fire danger, campfires are only allowed in a designated camp area. This does not mean a nice place on the side of the road under the trees or next to a lake or river. If you are caught with an illegal campfire, you may have to make a donation (fine or ticket ) to your local government agency.

The Mason Valley Wildlife Refuse is now open for fishing for the season. The Wildlife area is located just north of Yerington NV.

Chris Boline, Kevin Brunet, Gabbi Hall, Bryan Haskin and David Zybert have been elected to the board of directors of NCET, a member-supported non-profit that produces educational and networking events to help people explore businesses and technology.

Boline, elected as NCET’s vice president of social media and image management, works as a lead-generation specialist with The Applied Companies in Reno.

SACRAMENTO – State fish advisories issued Thursday for Bridgeport Reservoir and Topaz Lake in Mono County provides safe eating advice for multiple species of fish. The advisory for Bridgeport Reservoir provides safe eating advice for Brown Trout, Golden Shiner, Mountain Whitefish, Rainbow Trout, and Sacramento Perch. CARSON CITY — Congratulations to Yahir Herrera, third grader from Mark Twain Elementary School, and Adria Bass, a kindergartner from Bordewich Bray Elementary School. Both were awarded prizes for their parents’ participation in a survey designed to develop a School Safety Review Study.

String players of all ages and levels are invited to join the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, from 3 to 4 p.m. inside Carson Mall, 1313 S. Carson Street, Carson City. This free event is hosted by Carson City Symphony Association and Carson Mall.

This Sunday, Dec. 22 at 4 p.m. Come down to Sassafras in Carson City and spend an early evening with Só Sol. Get ready for some of the best folks, food, drinks, hot springs and songs one could ever ask for. This is a free show. All ages welcome.
