Gusty winds, especially in the Sierra, are expected Monday and Tuesday along with a cooling trend happening this week and the potential for snow by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory in effect for much of the region, including the greater Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley and Washoe Valley areas until 10 p.m. tonight.

One of the most overlooked pieces of noteworthy scientific advancement buried by the pandemic of 2020 occurred in Uruguay. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office sergeant who was injured in a Dec. 20 shooting is returning to his Carson City home from the hospital today, Tuesday with a full law enforcement escort.

UPDATE: Heading into the Christmas holiday weekend, the weather pattern for the Carson City region is expected to change beginning Christmas Day with periods of rain, snow and gusty winds into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong south to southwest winds will affect the Carson City and Sierra regions Tuesday into Tuesday night, prompting a High Wind Warning from the National Weather Service and a Winter Storm Warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin.

A fast moving weather system will move across northern Nevada and the Sierra on Friday into Saturday, bringing gusty winds, prompting wind warnings and advisories for the region. The weather system will also bring periods of mountain snow and mainly light valley rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Reverend Dr. Gary Robert Buchanan, local composer, conductor, Sonatherapist, minister at the International Community of Christ, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on October 16, 2020, after a year-long fight against cancer. After a night washed out with a deep sepia haze resulting from the Creek Fire burning in the southern Sierra, the dense smoke that made its way into northern and western Nevada Saturday night that caused degraded air quality throughout the region now appears to be lifting, according to the National Weather Service.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory, in effect from 11 a.m. Friday through 8 pm. Sunday for the greater Reno area, Carson City, Carson Valley in Douglas County, Mineral and Southern Lyon counties as well as the Western Nevada Basin and range including Pyramid Lake, Northern Washoe County.

Forecasters say we can expect consecutive days of high temperatures in most cities near or above 100 with overnight lows in the 60s. Record high Temperatures are likely, with potential for a new record for the latest 100 degrees at Reno.

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday for two counts suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and one count felony battery, according to a sheriff's office booking report.

Strong to potentially severe thunderstorms are possible through 9 p.m. Tuesday across the eastern Sierra, western Nevada and Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms have begun to move into the Sierra and western Nevada region Thursday afternoon, bringing with them lightning, periods of heavy rain and a risk of flash flooding and debris flows in recent wild land fire burn areas.
