Live music, art, Father's Day dinner special and more highlight weekend activities in Carson City region

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several events have instituted safety measures set by the state and Center for Disease Control to keep participants safe during these times.

Here’s a rundown of activities over the next three days:

Friday, June 19
Bookend summer with great reads, activities during 2020 Carson City Library Learning Challenge (all day). From June 13 to July 31, Summer Learning Challenge participants complete a certain number of virtual programs, activities and reading, depending on their age. Prizes are earned for registration and completion, and participants track all of their reading time in a simple app. Everyone who registers will be eligible to receive a special take-home kit, with fun activities to log with their reading.

Eddy Street Vintage Market Pop-Up. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1235 Eddy St. in Gardnerville. Come join us to help celebrate summer in style with our June Pop Up! Our sale starts Friday and ends Sunday.

Join Carson Tahoe Care Center for a Free Webinar on Dementia Care. 12 to 1 p.m. at 1001 Mountain St. Carson Tahoe Care Center invites the community to join a free webinar on Friday, June 19 from noon to 1 p.m. PST, led by dementia care expert Teepa Snow. The engaging online discussion will focus on understanding the symptoms of dementia and how families can support people living with various forms of the disease.

Virtual Makers Club at the Carson City Library. 4 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Registration is required at the following link https://carsoncitylibrary.libcal.com/event/6036600. For elementary school ages, join us virtually in real time via Zoom. Do you like to make and create? Join us for fun STEAM activities each month! This month we are challenging you to build the tallest tower using only marshmallows and toothpicks! Learn how to build different shapes to make the strongest and tallest tower. Supplies Needed: 30 small marshmallows, 30 toothpicks, 1 ruler, piece of paper, pencil or pen.

Jakota Wass at Bella Vita Bistro. 5 to 8 p.m. at 1304 S. Stewart St. in Carson City. Jakota Wass will be playing Friday at Bella Vita Bistro from 5-8! They also will be serving a BBQ and tri-tip sandwiches with potato salad and baked beans for $15!

Jack Di Carlo at the Gold Hill Hotel in Virginia City. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 1540 South Main St. Hear Jack Di Carlo perform an acoustic guitar in the Crown Point dining room at Gold Hill Hotel every Friday in June. Treat yourself to a fine dinner while you enjoy the melodies.

Live Music Outdoors at Living the Good Life. 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. Enjoy an evening outdoors. Great food, live entertainment, and fresh air! Please call ahead for reservations to ensure your seat.

Fight Camp at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio. 7 to 8 p.m. at 315 N. Carson St. This class is a mix of martial art drills, acrobatic conditioning, circus conditioning and boot camp style circuit. Perfect for the family wanting to stay fit and have fun at the same time! Not sure if you're in shape for this? We encourage all students to go at their pace and soon you will be at the level you want to be at. You will be accomplishing your fitness goals! Cost is $10 to drop in

DaVinci and Drinks at the Carson Valley Art Center. 7 to 10 p.m. at 1539 Hwy 395 N. Suite 2 in Gardnerville. Come and enjoy some drinks and art in Gardnerville! Cost is $35 per attendee.

Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.

Saturday, June 20

Carson City Sheriff's Cadet Car Wash. 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Home Depot, 3185 Market St. Come down to the Carson City Home Depot to get your car washed! It will be a great event for all to enjoy.

Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. Come on down to market at Fuji Park in Carson City and find some great treasures, lots of vendors to choose from. There is jewelry, arts, crafts, antiques, collectibles and so much more.

Carson City's Farmer's Market. 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Curry St. The Carson City Farmer’s Market has returned every Saturday with fresh fruits, vegetables and much more!

Outdoor Open House hosted by Daddio's Designs. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 500 N. Harbin Ave. With the Covid restrictions, we cannot have a craft booth at the Farmers Market right now. I am very excited to announce that we will do an Outdoor Open House! Come shop till you drop! We will practice social distancing and have fun shopping!

Trails and Tails at Riverview Park. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 600 Marsh Rd. in Carson City. Do you own an active dog? Does your dog enjoy walks out in nature? If so then join us for an adventure at Riverview Park on June 20th from 10am-12pm for a hike filled with fun and informative lessons! We'll learn about Leave No Trace, the Carson River, and a brief history of Man's best friend. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Although we are in the beginning stages of reopening Carson City, our staff here at Carson City Parks wants to be sure that everyone remains precautious of and safe from COVID-19. It is highly recommended that participants should wear a mask and we advise anyone who may be feeling sick to stay at home to keep others safe.

BAC's Flatbed Concert Series Continues Saturday in a new Carson City Neighborhood. 6 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St. The Brewery Arts Center will deliver live music directly to the citizens of Carson City while practicing social distancing once again this week. Miles Construction Company has generously donated the use of a Flatbed Truck and with financial support from The Change Companies, the Nauman Foundation, and Carson Tahoe Hospital, the BAC will place musicians and bands on the flatbed and drive them through the streets and neighborhoods of Carson City throughout June and July.

Lee Kennedy at Living the Good Life. 6 to 9 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. Saturday, June 20th, come enjoy a night of great food, drinks, dancing and live music at Living the Good Life Nightclub Bar and Bistro!

Imagination Children's Art Event in Virginia City. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Mary’s Art Center, 55 North R Street. June’s Imaginations Children’s Art project brings the outdoors inside! Head to the Art Center June 21 for some creepy crawly good times. Advance Registration is $25 per student. Day of registration costs $35 per student. Art Punch Card – is $20 per student and per class.

Nevada Artists Association Spirit of America Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. The Spirit of America proves to be alive and well in this judged show. Entries are from Nevada Artists Association NAA member and non-member artists from Northern Nevada and are divided into judged categories including oils, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, dry media, 3D art, photography, digital art and mixed media. Everyone is invited to the awards presentation and reception.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

Dayton Elementary School in Lyon County was honored Wednesday along 13 other schools including Carson High in Carson City as a Nevada Purple Star School.

Schools receiving the designation have committed to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children and their families.

Junior Park Ranger Day is back this Saturday, April 27 at Riverview Park in Carson City.

Junior Park Ranger Day is an annual event dedicated to help kids complete their Junior Ranger Adventure Guides and be sworn in all in one day.

Carson City School District hosted a ceremony Wednesday morning with local dignitaries from the Nevada Department of Education and officers from local military bases. A 37-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of obstruction, trespassing and felony sex offender failing to register, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Laura Ricks, TOSA/Instructional Coach at Empire Elementary School, was honored as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year, at the Tuesday, April 23, school board meeting and annual event.

Additionally, Sandra Guzzetta, special education paraprofessional at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, was recognized as the Education Support Professional Employee of the Year, and Chelise Crookshanks, principal at Mark Twain Elementary School, was recognized as the district’s Administrator of the Year.

Tickets are now available for this summer’s Capital City Brewfest. This year’s event takes place June 22 on Curry Street at McFadden Plaza in Carson City. More than two dozen brewers, as well as several food trucks, will line the street from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Plus there will be live music on the McFadden Plaza stage.
