While our name may imply we only work with children, nothing could be further from the truth. For the past 5 years, Kids & Horses has partnered with Connected Horse to offer powerful workshops to individuals with memory loss and their care partners.

In this month’s free Retired Living Truth Series seminar, attendees will literally get a chance to “pick the brains” of experts in aging, neuroscience, and memory care as they share the in’s and out’s of diagnosing, managing, and living with brain disease.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sandy Severance, Community Engagement Manager for the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada. She will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia more generally, and Alzheimer’s Association services available locally. Topics include the impact of Alzheimer’s, myths and facts, risk factors, the 10 warning signs, and how others can join the fight against the disease.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) hosts a public breakfast meeting every other month at the Silver Springs Community Center. The next meeting is Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023 at 9 a.m.

Each meeting includes introductions from all attending, presentations by guest speakers, and discussion and updates about collaborative efforts to increase access to health care; nutritious food; workforce development; and prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.

49,000 Nevadans live with Alzheimer’s disease, a degenerative brain disease that affects memory, thinking and behavior. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. The prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease in Nevada will grow 30.6 percent by 2025, reaching 64,000 Nevadans.

CARSON CITY — The Aging and Disability Services Division was recently awarded $6,929,262 in grants from the Administration for Community Living as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The funds will help meet the needs of older adults and people with disabilities as communities implement measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A no-cost virtual education program presented by the Alzheimer's Association will be on April 22 at 10 a.m.. In this session, we will review the landscape of Alzheimer’s and dementia science, illustrate the highlights in early detection and diagnosis and explain some of the latest advances in clinical trials, treatment and lifestyle interventions, including things we can all do today to decrease our risk of developing dementia.
