Yesterday at around 4pm an angel was born. The greatest woman I've ever known passed away after a brief hospitalization.

My grandmother raised me from a baby, and in her final years we took care of her through alzheimer's and dementia. She fell and broke her femur 6 weeks ago, and it has been downhill ever since. Although we have been gone from Carson for about 10 years, my grandmother was known by many people when I was a child.

What to do, what to do? That’s the question that starts most every weekend. If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

This story began a long time ago as a little six year old girl in northwest Ohio. Bonnie Zimmerman was in first grade with me and I loved her. She seemed vulnerable and in need of friendship support.

Rock Steady Boxing names Jules Radow February Boxer of the Month

It's Your City: Panel discusses aging in Nevada

This week's edition of It's Your City features last month's presentation on aging by the Sanford Center on Aging. The forum was held Jan. 24 at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

Free training program for care givers of elderly veterans and others

The programs are called "Bravo Zulu: Achieving Excellence in Relationship-Centered Care." They're designed to give care partners of veterans a better understanding of military culture as well as the influence and impact of military service experiences on the healthcare needs of aging veterans.

Lorene "Jerri" Koon, 93, of Greeley, Colorado, long time resident of Carson City, passed away at Bonell Good Samaritan Center on July 8, 2015 from complications of dementia. She was born December 25, 1921 in Holton, Kansas to Sid Jones and Parazida (Pippin) Jones. she was predeceased by her husband, Harold Koon. She is survived by sons Earl Isabell (Lee) of Texas, and Bruce (Darlene) Isabell of Oregon, and grandsons John Shober (Belle) of Greeley, Colorado, Ed Shober of Leadville, Colorado, Steve Isabell and Sam Isabell of Portland, Oregon, and James and Allen Isabell also of Oregon.
