Happenings around Carson City on Wednesday, Feb. 5
Looking ahead to Wednesday, we can expect sunshine and a gradual warmup. Midweek events around town include art showings, yoga and meditation classes, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

Here's what's happening Wednesday:
— Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'Photo Finished 2020' exhibition. Daily through March 26. The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Photo Finished 2020, at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Nine students from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public through March 26, 2020, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The Carson High students include Jackie Garza, Ansley Griffin, Karla Herrera, Meagan Kiesow, Kayee Konze, Kailee Luschar, Vanessa Martinez, Haley Trost, and Valerie Wamsley. The artists are all students in Kara Ferrin’s Advanced Photography class.
— Nevada Artists Association New Year's Show. NAA presents it's New Year's Show with 124 entries by member artists. Additionally, water colorist, Melanie Walters and potter, Nancy Brownrigg are our Featured Artists and have their exhibits on the back wall of the Gallery. These shows run through Feb. 14. The Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday, except Monday. — Open Studio Painting at the Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work on your own paintings from subject matter you chose for yourself. The instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout the class. Students may use oil, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Dry media is also welcome. Bring your own supplies and source materials (such as photographs or drawings you wish to paint). This in an open enrollment drop in class so there is no need to enroll in advance. Classes: 9:00-12:00 or 12:30-3:30. $25 per session or $40 for the day, payment made to instructor. For more details contact the Brewery Arts Center here or by calling 883-1976.
— Yoga 4 Life with Ruth Chan offered Wednesdays through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness. 11:30 a.m. You’ve probably heard that Yoga is good for you. Maybe you’ve even tried it and discovered that it makes you feel better. Regular practice can offer all kinds of mental and physical health benefits. Some, like improved flexibility, are clearly evident. Others, including mental clarity and stress reduction, maybe more subtle but are just as powerful. When putting together, the benefits contribute to an increased feeling of well-being. Join us every Wednesday from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM at the Health & Wellness Institute, Suite 250, 1470 Medical Pkwy, Carson City. Cost: $5 per class or 10 classes for $40.
— Douglas-Carson Legal Professionals hosts February luncheon. Noon. Join us for our February CLE meeting and visit with Judge Cassandra Jones, East Fork Justice Court, as she talks to us about transitioning from private practice to the judicial office. Luncheon is at Red's Old 395 Grill, 1055 South Carson Street, Carson City.
— Basic Pottery Skills at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. Studio manager, Lucas Lamont, introduces you to clay, in this 6-week open start class, designed to get you started with clay. The syllabus includes pinch pots, coil pots, sculpture, and an introduction to wheel throwing. $175 for 6 week class including open studio times or $45 for drop in classes. 1215 S. Carson St. Carson City.
— Midweek Meditation Class. Midweek Meditation with Jenn Andrews runs for 8 weeks at a time. You can come to the full 8 week series, or just come to each class individually when you can. Classes are held Wednesday evenings 3:30-5pm through March 11. (No class Feb 12th). Classes are at the 7th St Studio: 116 E 7th St, No. 4, Carson City. Class is on a “pay what you can” option. No payment is required, and if you do choose to make a financial offering, it supports the time and energy of the teacher, and helps pay for the space. Come to one class, or come to all. — Wine and Dine Watercolor Classes at Black Bear Diner inside Max Casino. 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Students get a reminder text each week. Drop in basis — no monthly commitment necessary. On rare occasions we meet elsewhere, students will be notified. To sign up, get a supply list or ask questions email Dana at tfa.create@gmail.com. — Seeking Safety workshops continue Wednesdays through March. 5:30 p.m. A 12-week public workshop called Seeking Safety meet Wednesdays through March 25. Seeking Safety is an evidence-based curriculum gained at helping women develop skills to keep themselves out of unsafe relationships and avoid self-abuse of drugs or alcohol. The workshops are open to women and participants are encouraged to attend any of them. The workshops are facilitated by licensed counselors. The workshops are offered by counselors through the Community Counseling Center that received special training paid for by a grant through Carson City Health and Human Services. Workshops will be held 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, in the meeting room at Salvation Army, 911 East Second Street, Carson City. — Salsa Group Class in Downtown Carson City. 7 p.m. Every Wednesday at 7 pm join us to learn the popular dance of Salsa! Cost is $10 per person. Start with a warm up of the dance steps then try them with a partner. Don’t have a partner? That is ok. Singles are mixed to make sure everyone gets a chance to try dancing with a partner. — Country and Pop Dancing at Carson Lanes. Join us every Tuesday and Wednesday night with DJ Tedi Burger playing all your favorite Country and Pop Tunes from 6 to 10 p.m. Both nights include Beginner Hr 6-7pm and Line or Partner Lessons at 6:30 and 7:30 with either Tedi, Dustin, Danielle, Annie, Craig or Wayne.
