Fitness, classic film and scary makeup: Events around Carson City for Tuesday, Sept. 3
Going into Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, we're looking at sunshine and temperatures in the low 90s. Events around the capital city include a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a scary makeup demonstration at the Brewery Arts Center and the 1946 version of "The Postman Always Rings Twice," presented by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. Here's what's happening Tuesday:
— Muscle Powered Tuesday Morning Walk, Westside Neighborhood. 8 a.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk around Carson City. This walk highlights the westside neighborhood from the Mountain Street trailhead. Meet in the parking lot at 1340 Mountain Street, across from the end of Fleishman Way. Morning walks start at 8 a.m. and are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: New Crop 2019. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, New Crop 2019, by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop. Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E Musser St., Carson City.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Graphically Defined. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) is delighted to present Graphically Defined, a group exhibition of work by seventeen Western Nevada College students. This exhibit includes a wide variety of art including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting and photography that shows the diversity of the students’ creativity. The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. 108 E Proctor St., Carson City.
— Nevada Artists Association Judged Photography Show and Summer Show. The Nevada Artists Association Presents: The 2019 Judged Photography Show and The Members' Summer Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Mondays through September 6. Come and see all the beautiful entries and vote for your top three People's Choice favorites in the Judged Photography Show. The Gallery also offers a wide variety of handcrafted gifts by local artists. We are located at 449 W. King Street at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.
— Famed World War II bomber to visit Minden-Tahoe Airport for tours and flights. 11 a.m. The Commemorative Air Force B-17 Sentimental Journey will be in Douglas County at the Minden-Tahoe Airport arriving Tuesday, Sept. 3. The aircraft will be available for tours and flights, daily through Sept. 8. The B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most recognized WII bombers flying over Europe with the 8th Air Force out of England. It was made famous in movies like "Twelve O'Clock High" and "Command Decision." The airplane will arrive about 11 a.m. on Tuesday. It will be open that afternoon for tours. Tours will be available Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. This can vary depending on how many rides are given. Tours are $15 per person and $25 per families. Rides are $850 for Navigator and Bombardier seats. They are $425 fro Radio compartment and Gunner seats. — Muscle Powered Ladies MTB Ride. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Meetup at Foothill Drive just off of N Winnie Lane. Rides start at 5:30 PM and are open to all skill levels. All riders must carry water and have a mountain bike in safe working condition, helmet, closed toed shoes, spare tube, pump and tools to change a flat tire. — Muscle Powered Tuesday Evening Hike at Carson River Canyon. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. The Tuesday evening hike is Carson River Canyon. Meet at Brunswick Canyon Road and Deer Run Road, one mile south of Highway 50 East. Tuesday evening hikes start at 5:30 PM and are usually 1-1/2 hours or more duration and are 4-6 miles in length. Water and closed-toed shoes are required. Hat and poles recommended. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. — Tuesday night archery shoots return to Carson City's Centennial Park Archery Range. 5:30 p.m. Every Tuesday evening, 5:30 to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen host its Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City. Both traditional and 3D targets are available. The target range is open shooting for use at no cost. There is a $5 fee (kids 17 and under are free) to shoot the 3D animal targets. We have archery equipment, volunteers and instructors to get you started. Come on out and join us. It’s a great way to experience the world of archery. Open to all ages. — Parents of Addicted Loved Ones hold meetings Tuesday evenings. 6 p.m. PAL provides education and support, at no cost, for family members (over 18) trying to save a son, daughter or family member from addiction to alcohol or drugs. By attending our meetings on Tuesdays, 6 p.m. at Partnership Carson City office at 1925 N Carson City St., you will give and receive support from others who are facing the same challenges you are.
— Scary makeup demonstration featured at Brewery Arts Center. 6 p.m. Wired Wednesday Tuesday's Talk will be Lynzie Ruecker, from Image Perspectives "The Injury Simulation People!" She will be demonstrating how to apply a wound and how to do a Zombie face. This demo will surely get you inspired to make a horror film for the Carson City Creepy Horror Film Competition coming up in October. Please visit WiredWednesday.org for more info on Carson Creepy. Tuesday's Talk is from 6-6:30 p.m. at the BAC Performance Hall just before Carson City Classic Cinema Club fills you in about the nights film which screens at 7 p.m., "The Postman Always Rings Twice."
— Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1946). Doors open at 6. Movie begins at 7 p.m. Lana Turner smolders as the sultriest of femme fatales. opposite John Garfield, in one of the best film noirs of all time. Their passion ultimately leads to their mutual distruction, in unexpected ways. General admission $4; free for students and members. Trivia and intro begin at 6:30 p.m. film at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street. New this year, Wired Wednesday Digital Artists will present a brief film-making discussion prior to our films, beginning at 6 p.m. This month's topic: lighting for dark films.
— Empty Bowls, Open Studio. 6 to 8:30 p.m. Create an empty bowl to donate to charity, instruction will be offered to create and paint a bowl or create something on our own during open studio session. Open studio time at Ogres-Holm Pottery is free of charge and open to the public. 1215 South Carson Street.
