Famed World War II bomber to visit Minden-Tahoe Airport for tours and flights
The Commemorative Air Force B-17 Sentimental Journey will be in Douglas County at the Minden-Tahoe Airport arriving Tuesday, Sept. 3. The aircraft will be available for tours and flights, daily through Sept. 8.
The B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most recognized WII bombers flying over Europe with the 8th Air Force out of England. It was made famous in movies like "Twelve O'Clock High" and "Command Decision."
The airplane will arrive about 11 a.m. on Tuesday. It will be open that afternoon for tours. Tours will be available Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. This can vary depending on how many rides are given. Tours are $15 per person and $25 per families. Rides are $850 for Navigator and Bombardier seats. They are $425 for Radio compartment and Gunner seats.
