Events and Happenings in the Carson City region for Saturday, January 11
Happy Saturday Carson City! We have a bunch of great events going on in the region throughout the weekend, so check below to see what’s happening!
Saturday, January 11
— Carson City Library 2020 Winter Reading Challenge (all day). From Jan. 5-18, Winter Reading Challenge participants read a total of 14 hours, with extra raffle tickets earned for each hour of above-and-beyond reading. Prizes are also earned for registration and completion, and participants track all of their reading time in a simple app.
— Carson City area Christmas tree recycling and curbside pick-up schedule (all day). There are several easily accessible Christmas Tree Recycling Programs provided by various government entities throughout the Northern Nevada region, so that your loved tree can be recycled in a safe and productive manner. — Gilded Hearts Class at the Brewery Arts Center. 10 a.m. Learn a new technique for creating the look of Gold Leaf Gilding. In this class we will use simple materials to create the look of dimensional gold leaf. Then we will tangle and embellish for glimmering results that you will love!
— Museum's 'Mint150' celebration tips hat to Carson City founding Curry family. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. The Nevada State Museum is offering a step back into Carson City’s history on Saturday, Jan. 11, complete with a presentation from the city’s founding family. It was in January of 1870 when the doors of the Carson City Mint were opened to the public by its first superintendent — and Carson City’s founder — Abe Curry.
— Nevada Artists Association New Year's Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. NAA presents its New Year's Show with 124 entries by member artists. Additionally, water colorist, Melanie Walters and potter, Nancy Brownrigg are our Featured Artists and have their exhibits on the back wall of the Gallery. These shows run through February 14. The Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday except Monday. — Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson St. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 weekly sessions or $45 drop ins.
— LEGO Club at the Carson City Library. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.
— Carson Mall to host Bingo night to benefit Pop Warner Cheer Squad. 5 to 8 p.m. at 1313 S. Carson St. Carson Mall will be sponsoring a Family BINGO night for the pop-warner cheer squad to go to Nationals! The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be able to be purchased. Prizes include gift cards, gift baskets and more.
— Legendary Country Rock Band 'I See Hawks in L.A.' to Play at Historic Silver City Schoolhouse. 7 p.m. at 385 High St. in Silver City. I See Hawks in L.A., “The house band for the hippy diaspora," to play exclusive Northern Nevada show January 11, 2020 at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse Saturday, Jan. 11.
— Saturday Night Star Party at Western Nevada College. 7:30 to 9 p.m. at 2201 W. College Pkwy. The Jack C Davis Observatory hosts free star parties on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month year round, starting at 7:30 p.m. (except when there is snow on the roads). The evening starts with a lecture on one of numerous topics and concludes with guided star viewing by one of our astronomers. Mike Thomas lectures 2nd Saturdays and Dr. Tom Herring lectures on Saturdays.
— Saturday Night at Living the Good Life. 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. Let’s get out and dance Carson City! Celebrate a cool Saturday night with live music, tasty food, drinks and plenty of fun!
Sunday, December 12

— Muscle Powered Sunday Bicycle Ride. 9 a.m. Meet at Fremont Elementary School in the South parking lot next to the Linear Ditch Trail. All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes.
— Community Yoga at Comma Coffee. 9 to 10 a.m. at 312 S. Carson St. Get up and get a stretch at Comma Coffee on Sunday. A yoga session will be held for interested attendees looking to start the morning off on a high note!

— Dayton Wedding Faire this Sunday at Mark Twain Community Center. 12 to 4 p.m. at 500 Sam Clemens Ave. in Dayton at the corners of Rowan Gulch and Six Mile Canyon. We're bringing our very own bridal faire to Dayton this Sunday, Jan. 12, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Mark Twain Community Center. We will have several vendors there to chat with you and to help you get started on your wedding planning. Free admission, free parking and raffles, too. Vendor participation is free.
