Job fair at Carson Nugget, Relay for Life fundraiser and more: Tuesday events around Carson City
Heading into Tuesday, August 27, 2019 we're looking at continued hot weather around the capital city, with daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s. Ahead is a job fair at the Carson Nugget, a Fat Tuesday business networking gathering, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, free skin cancer testing offered by Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness Institute, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs and more.

Here's what's happening Tuesday:
— Muscle Powered Tuesday Morning Walk at Carriage Square Park. 8 a.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. A schedule of all upcoming activities and events can be found at www.musclepowered.org/calendar. Tuesday morning's walk is at Carriage Square Park. No pets allowed in park. Meet on the corner of Cabrolet Drive and Victoria Lane. Head on W. Winnie Lane, then turn left on Victoria Lane. Walk through the neighborhood. Morning walks start at 8 AM and are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. — Free Skin Cancer Screening and Lecture Compliments Of Carson Tahoe Health & Wellness Institute. Carson Dermatology on behalf of Carson Tahoe Health & Wellness Institute is offering free skin cancer screenings. Skin cancer is the most prevalent of all cancers. It is estimated that more than one million Americans develop skin cancer every year. Sun avoidance is the best defense against skin cancer. Overexposure to sunlight (including tanning) is the main cause of skin cancer especially when it results in sunburn and blistering. Screenings are by appointment only. Go here to book an appointment.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: New Crop 2019. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, New Crop 2019, by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop. Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E Musser St., Carson City.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Graphically Defined. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) is delighted to present Graphically Defined, a group exhibition of work by seventeen Western Nevada College students. This exhibit includes a wide variety of art including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting and photography that shows the diversity of the students’ creativity. The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. 108 E Proctor St., Carson City.
— Carson Nugget hosts Job Fair. The Carson Nugget in Carson City is pleased to announce that we are hosting a job fair on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to fill positions in full time, part time and seasonal capacities. All levels of experience are invited to attend the event which takes place in Alatte on the main floor of the casino on N. Carson Street. Come check out what the Nugget has to offer. The Fair will be held at the Carson Nugget Alatte, main floor, 507 North Carson Street, Carson City.
— Relay for Life dinner fundraiser Tuesday at Firehouse Subs. 5 p.m. to closing. There will be a dinner time fundraiser for Carson City, Douglas County Relay for life this Tuesday evening, August 27 at Firehouse Subs in Carson City. The fundraiser is from From 5 to 9 p.m. at Firehouse Subs, which will be donating a portion of their proceeds to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life #DineAndDonate. Firehouse Subs is located at 3120 Highway 50 East in Carson City.
— Fat Tuesday Business-to-Business Networking meets at the Carson Nugget. 5:30 p.m. A Carson City business networking group, Fat Tuesday, will meet this Tuesday, August 27 at Alatte inside the Carson Nugget. All are welcome, attendance if free and there isn't a membership fee. The group, which gathers on the 4th Tuesday of the month, meets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the high table in the Alatte, 507 N. Carson Street, Carson City. Participants are urged to bring their business cards. You pay for your beverages; we've got the appetizers covered. Registration is required. Go here to sign up.
— Muscle Powered Ladies MTB Ride. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Meetup at Foothill Drive just off of N Winnie Lane. Rides start at 5:30 PM and are open to all skill levels. All riders must carry water and have a mountain bike in safe working condition, helmet, closed toed shoes, spare tube, pump and tools to change a flat tire. — Muscle Powered Tuesday Evening Hike, August at Ash to Kings Canyon Trail. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. A schedule of all upcoming activities and events can be found at www.musclepowered.org/calendar. The evening hike is Ash to Kings Canyon Trail. Meet at the end of the asphalt of Ash Canyon Road to carpool to trailhead. Tuesday evening hikes start at 5:30 PM and are usually 1 1/2 hours or more duration and are 4-6 miles in length. Water and closed-toed shoes are required. Hat and poles recommended.
— Tuesday night archery shoots return to Carson City's Centennial Park Archery Range. 5:30 p.m. Every Tuesday evening, 5:30 to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen host its Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City. Both traditional and 3D targets are available. The target range is open shooting for use at no cost. There is a $5 fee (kids 17 and under are free) to shoot the 3D animal targets. We have archery equipment, volunteers and instructors to get you started. Come on out and join us. It’s a great way to experience the world of archery. Open to all ages. — Empty Bowls, Open Studio. 6 to 8:30 p.m. Create an empty bowl to donate to charity, instruction will be offered to create and paint a bowl or create something on our own during open studio session. Open studio time at Ogres-Holm Pottery is free of charge and open to the public. 1215 South Carson Street.
