Heat advisory extended, thunderstorm threat poses fire concerns for Northern Nevada

A Heat Advisory issued by the National Weather Service for the Carson City area and many valleys of western and west-central Nevada was extended through Wednesday night as the entire region experiences typical yet extremely hot August temperatures, dry conditions, afternoon thunderstorms and the ongoing threat of wildfires.

Hot weather to sweep Carson City region this week; temps in 90s with thunderstorms possible

After seasonal weather over the past few weeks brought periods of gusty wind, some valley showers and a few inches of snow to the Sierra, the Carson City region will be riding into a late spring heat wave this week, with daytime temperatures hot enough to force on those cooling fans and air conditioners.

Wreath ceremony for fallen Carson City law officers among events Thursday around town

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

Heat to produce swift, cold river stream flows in Douglas, southern Lyon and Mono counties

Hot weather expected through Wednesday will trigger the return to rapid melting of high elevation snowpack, that will produce increased flows in the higher elevation tributary streams and swift, cold flows for rivers and streams in the lower valleys by midweek from Lake Tahoe south through Mono County, according to the National Weather Service.

McFadden Plaza Splash Pad now up and running to cool off during this hot weather

The Splash Pad at McFadden Plaza is now running just in time for some hot weather next week.

Weather permitting, the splash pad will run today and tomorrow until 5pm, and Sunday from dawn to dusk.
