Here is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, Northern California and the Sierra. This report is for the week of Feb. 14 to 20.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:

The road has been closed for the season, so there will be no more fishing reports for Angel Lake until it opens next spring.

BIG SPRINGS RESERVOIR, HUMBOLDT COUNTY, NEV:

BISHOP AREA, CALIF:
Closed until the last Saturday in April 2013.

BLUE LAKES, HUMBOLDT COUNTY, NEV:

Good fishing reported at Lake Oroville. Warmer weather has driven the Bass a bit deeper; around 20-30ft. Finesse drop-shot, tubes, and dart-head jigs have been doing to job.

OWENS RIVER, CALIF:

Upper Owens River:
Current flow is 111 CFS.
Section up stream of the Benton Crossing Bridge is open all year.
Barbless artificials only. Zero limit.
Nymph fishing is the best bet. Try WD-40's , pheasant tails and caddis larva.
Lower Owens River:
Water flow is up to 125 CFS. Fishing continues to improve. Although the insect activity has increased the surface action is minimal.
Midge patterns are the most effective.
Red jujube midge, small Stevies Wonders and WD-40's.

PIT RIVER, CALIF:

Nice weather and warmer day temperatures make for good midday fishing.
Water conditions are improving but still slightly muddy. Anglers successful using #6-8 dark colored stonefly patterns and #12 PT nymphs.

Shasta Lake guided fishing- Northern California fishing Lake Shasta.
We offer daily guided fishing on Lake Shasta.
Lake Shasta fishing is fair to good. Some days have been better than others, but still catching Rainbow trout.
We are catching mostly Rainbow Trout on the surface and also about 40 feet deep. The Dry Creek area, using Cripp Lures and Wiggle Hoochies.
Anglers, book now for the Spring Break. Lake Shasta is place to be for lots of action and great trout fishing & salmon fishing.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF:

There are a lot of spotted bass out there in Shasta Lake. The smaller fish are eating jigs about 35 feet deep. The bigger fish are going for spinner baits, swim baits, and cranks. Some of the bigger spotted bass are up to 8 pounds, but there are much more of the smaller ones in the lake.

Smith River Steelhead fishing report
Catch big steelhead on the Smith River and Chetco River.
We are fishing for steelhead now. February , & March. Now is the time 
to catch monster Steelhead on the Smith River. Rain is here, great for steelhead fishing. Smith River is slow for steelhead the last few days.
Steelhead fishing on the Chetco is great.
The catch has been good averaging 4 to 7 fish per day, depending on level of experience of angler.
All day trips, with amazing views, and catching nice bright steelhead.
BOOK TODAY, steelhead fishing on the Chetco River and Smith River, February & March are the Prime months.

Currently, Water is at 300 CFS. 
Picking up nice Steelhead. Steelhead Fishing is good.
Rain helped bring up new fish, with 8 to 12 hook ups. 
Fishing for Steelhead on the Trinity River from Lewiston to Pigeon Point. This is Trinity River steelhead fishing time. 
Flies working best are Stone flies, Copper John's, and Egg patterns.
Fly fishing is producing the most steelhead now, over any other technique.
Bait fisherman using lures and producing nice Steelhead, as well.
We are fishing for steelhead on the Trinity River from now through the month of March.
Trinity River fishing is conveniently located 40 minutes West of Redding, Calif. fishing from the town of Weaverville, Calif.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF:

WALKER LAKE, MINERAL COUNTY, NEV:

No Lahontan cutthroat have been reported or seen at Walker Lake since 2009. Mineral County Road Dept. has done some work on the State Parks Launch. Launching is improved but you still need four wheel drive.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, CALIF:

East Walker River:

The East is flowing at 22 CFS at this time, we’re starting to see a few more anglers on the river now that the below zero weather seems to be behind us.
We have had mostly good reports from the river though there have been a few anglers that haven’t done that well.
The folks that are doing well are still using small midge patterns near the bottom with some occasional good dry fly action.
Haven’t heard much about streamers yet but they should pick up as the water temps warm up a bit.
Patterns to try include blood midges, flashback emerger, zebra midge, WD-40, GT emerger, parachute adams, blue wing olive, blue dun.
Sceirine Ranch:

We haven’t had any clients on the Sceirine for at least a month, the fishing should be about the same down there as on the California side of the EW.

Washoe Lake dried up in 2004 and, although it is presently full and has been restocked, the fish population, consisting mostly of channel catfish and white bass, is small. Fishing is expected to be poor.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

Dayton Elementary School in Lyon County was honored Wednesday along 13 other schools including Carson High in Carson City as a Nevada Purple Star School.

Schools receiving the designation have committed to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children and their families.

Junior Park Ranger Day is back this Saturday, April 27 at Riverview Park in Carson City.

Junior Park Ranger Day is an annual event dedicated to help kids complete their Junior Ranger Adventure Guides and be sworn in all in one day.

Carson City School District hosted a ceremony Wednesday morning with local dignitaries from the Nevada Department of Education and officers from local military bases. Carson High School was honored with a Nevada Purple Star School designation for supporting military-connected students and their families.

A 37-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of obstruction, trespassing and felony sex offender failing to register, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Laura Ricks, TOSA/Instructional Coach at Empire Elementary School, was honored as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year, at the Tuesday, April 23, school board meeting and annual event.
