Passport to Downtown 2018 winners announced

Congratulations to the winners of Passport to Downtown raffle prizes, whose names are listed below in alphabetical order.

Prizes can be picked up at Monarch Direct on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Prize winners must show a picture ID when picking up prizes, and winners under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Monarch Direct is located at 714 N. Curry Street in Carson City. It can be contacted by calling 775-882-9384.

Prizes must be claimed by Nov. 23, 2018. New winners will be drawn after that date for any unclaimed prizes. Those winners will be posted here and contacted by phone or email.

Time to dust off those ten-speeds Carson City, because May is Bike Month in the capital city!

Carson City’s Muscle Powered hosts bike month each year in addition to their year-round volunteerism.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

In collaboration with Chartwells, the Carson City School District foodservice partner, Culinary Arts students from Ms. Tammy Borreman’s class at Carson Middle School competed in a “Discovery Kitchen Cook Off.” Similar to a mini version of the Food Network’s Iron Chef, the timed cooking competition featured teams of three students who prepared succulent dishes for a judging panel.
