The spirit of Christmas is in the air as we head into the final stretch of the work week. Thursday events around the capital city feature an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a Carson City tradition with the return of Joyful Noise Holiday Community Show at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. Happenings around town include organized morning and evening fitness walks, a "Stuff the Bus Toy Drive" at Capital Ford, a Planning Commission meeting on the proposed Andersen Ranch development and a Posada event at Mark Twain Elementary. Plus, the Carson City School Orchestra Program will hold its annual Holiday Concert at the community center, The Peanuts Gang Trio will hold a free holiday concert at Sassafras, and more.

The countdown to Christmas is on as we head into the first day of the work week. Events around the capital city Monday include a free yoga class offered through Partnership Carson City, the first day kickoff of a Holiday Gift Making Camp at the Brewery Arts Center, a Carson River Trails Project open house hosted by Parks, Recreation and Open Space, a Carson City Democratic luncheon featuring a Bernie Sanders campaign presentation, West Coast swing dancing at Carson Lanes and more.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. In December, Mondays don't really seem like Monday. At least for those of us caught up in the holiday spirit of giving and kindness. What a weekend of community fellowship this was among Carson City locals and we're just getting started, counting down the days until Christmas.

The days keep moving along, ever closer to the weekend and huge helpings of Christmas holiday activities. Thursday events around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting with the developer of the proposed Andersen Ranch, a presentation: "Feathers and Furs of the Carson Valley" at the River Fork Ranch, an "End to Prohibition Party" at Gather restaurant, and more.

The break in the stormy weather was a short one, with more precipitation later in the day Wednesday, forecasters say. Activities around Carson City on Dec. 4 include a "Red Kettle" job hiring event at the Carson City Salvation Army, a Fitness Lab grand opening on Minnesota Street, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, library activities, classes and more.

Snow days, snow way. At least that's what the weather forecast calls for Tuesday. We'll see mostly cloudy skies before another chance of rain or snow arrives midweek and then a larger storm in time for the weekend. As the saying goes of Nevada weather: Wait a minute and it will change. It is also #GivingTuesday. If you have a favorite organization, it's a good time to send a few dollars their way. Around town there's art showings, a fitness walk, hike, dance classes and an old school film favorite at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

With Thanksgiving leftovers winding down, we're winding up to the second day in December and the first day of the work week ahead, with activities lined up through the weekend. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 31st season of the Nutcracker Ballet, a Feast with a Hero fundraiser at Slot World, Small Business Saturday throughout Carson City and Carson Valley, photos with Santa, a Telegraph Square sign dedication, Polar Express train rides at the V&T Railroad and more!

The last Thursday of November means a big gobble gobble, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy in the games, festivities, activities at home and outdoors. Events are at a minimum, for obvious reasons, but the two big ones are traditions for us in the capital city. The Carson City Turkey Trot at the Governor's Mansion and the free Carson Nugget Thanksgiving community dinner. Enjoy your day and any slight break in the weather. More winter storms are on the way.

With snow overnight into the morning, the eve of Thanksgiving will bustle with last minute food shopping and, for many, preparing for an extended holiday weekend. There's a few activities around Carson City on Wednesday, Nov. 27 including a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, classes and more.

With the season's first big winter storm expected to arrive later Tuesday evening into Thanksgiving, you can still get in activities around the capital city before the snow flies. Good morning Carson City, and happy June! We have a ton of events going on today in our beloved capital city, with the June wine walk, the first day of the farmer’s market, a brew fest at Fuji park, and more! With a high of 75, it’s shaping up to finally start to feel like summer (knock on wood).

Heading into a jam-packed weekend of events around the Carson City region, there's a bevy of activities Friday to get your started. Lace up your shoes for a morning walk at Riverview Park, and then head on over to the Nevada State Museum for a coin press demonstration, and tours that explore anthropology and Nevada history. Later there's a cruise night gathering at Carson Mall to benefit Safe Grad Night, an Italian dinner fundraiser at the Governor's Mansion to benefit Carson City's homeless, live music at Living the Good Life and A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, and much more. Sandie La Nae will be the featured author Saturday, June 1 at Morley's Books located at 201 W. King Street in Carson City.

La Nae, author of 19 books, will be featuring her volume written about the historic building that Morley's Books is housed in, "Wells Fargo Office."

Other books Sandie will be selling of her historic volumes include Buckland Station, St. Charles Hotel, Genoa Bar, Alpine Hotel in Markleeville, and those from her "WEIRD" series about Carson City, Reno, and Virginia City.

Welcome to Halloween and the last day of October, Carson City. Today is Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018. Activities today feature trick or treating at the Carson Mall, the Downtown Candy Crawl, a haunted house at Western Nevada College and a harvest festival in the Carson Valley. Carson City’s rich and intriguing history will be explored and theatrically relived this Saturday with two themed Carson City Ghost Walks.

Stop by Morley's Books during the August 5th wine walk and meet the author of new book on Nevada Assembly Speakers. A limited edition press of 150 numbered and signed copies of the book will be on sale for $45 which includes tax. A unique view of Nevada politics! hope to see you there!

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. The temperatures will be brisk, but nothing a scarf and sweater can’t help guard against. The real cold shows up late Sunday and brings with it a good chance for snow. Mary Poppins would advise we bear it with a spoon full of sugar.

Labor Day Weekend Highlights

Carson City:

• Treasure hunt on Saturday at the Carson City Historical Society Rummage and Yard Sale at the Forman-Roberts House Museum at 1207 N. Carson St. Free tours of the museum will also be available during the 9am-4pm event.
• Take a ride on the Virginia and Truckee #25 Steam Engine at the Nevada State Train Museum Friday through Monday.

Cindy Southerland, Carson City's cemetery historian and author, will be at Morley's Books on the Wine Walk, Saturday Sept. 5 from 1 pm to 5 pm. Books will be on sale and author will appear in widow's weeds ... see you there!

I apologize, Carson City. You have some decisions to make. There is quite a bit going on whether you want something family friendly, adults only, indoors, outdoors, or a combination of it all. The weekly Farmers Market at Third and Curry St. is always a good way to start the weekend. Yummy food, a bounce house for the kids, and beautiful flowers are hard to argue with.
