Carson City road report for Oct. 25 through Nevada Day
Monday morning's Carson City commute may bring with it some debris-dodging following Sunday's wind and rain storm. The Carson City Public Works Department will have no doubt worked throughout the night clearing the streets. Give 'em a wave for their efforts if you see them on the streets.
With this in mind, here's the Carson City road construction report for the week and what at week it will be. With the Nevada Day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 30, Carson Street will be closed between Winnie Lane and Stewart Street beginning at 7:30 a.m. and will not reopen until later in the afternoon following the Nevada Day parade.
Side streets along Carson Street between William Street and Winnie Lane will be closed on Saturday morning for parade staging. Stewart Street will also be closed at its southern end from Carson Street to Little Lane. Alternative routes will be required for thru traffic.
The Roop Street widening project continues and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The following impacts are likely this week:
— Washington Street is now open between Roop Street and Walsh Street. Please be advised that Washington Street is now a one-way street between Roop Street and just east of the library parking lot entrance.
— Roop Street will have intermittent lane restrictions from Robinson Street to Washington Street for striping.
— William Street will have intermittent lane closures at Roop Street on Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for westbound traffic.
— Long Street will be closed from Stewart Street to Marian Street. Traffic will be detoured via Stewart Street, Corbett Street, and Molly Drive.
— Lee Street and Beverly Street will be closed to through traffic at Roop Street . All Senior Center traffic should utilize Beverly Street from the east via Marian Avenue, Molly Drive, and Corbett Street.
— Roop Street is closed from William Street to Stewart Street through the completion of the project.
— Lane restrictions will be in place at the intersection of Winnie Lane and Roop Street. The intersection will be open to thru traffic.
As a result of the next phase of the Nevada Department of Transportation freeway project, Koontz Lane will be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011.
Water utility improvements will impact the following roads:
— Hells Bells Road between Parkhill Drive and Marsh Road will be closed to through traffic (local traffic allowed) all week.
— Fairview Drive between Butti Way and 5th Street roundabout will be reduced to one lane with flaggers during daytime hours. Expect minor delays.
With utility work on Russell Way, the road will be limited to one lane with flaggers between Northridge Drive and Long Street on Monday, Oct. 25, and Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Construction will continue near the intersection of Northridge Drive and Russell Way for the Fulstone Wetlands Enhancement project. Work will be off-street, but there may be occasional delays due to construction activity. Please use caution.
Here's a great Van Morrison road song and video worth watching.
As always — be safe, courteous and drive in peace.
