Roadway maintenance the topic at Monday's Democratic luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Chris Martinovich, PE, Transportation Manager at Carson City Public Works. He is project manager for Preserve Carson City Roads, a campaign designed to educate Carson City drivers about current roadway conditions, preservation solutions, potential funding sources, and what will happen if sufficient investments are not made to preserve our roads. Chris' presentation will be a status report on progress his project team has made to date.

Carson City Supervisors to discuss rifle range, emergency housing grants, new subdivisions and more

The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, Jan. 21 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Up for discussion includes improvements to the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, Grants for emergency housing, the proposed Little Lane Village subdivision and more.

Carson City to make Colorado Street improvements, residents asked to participate in survey

The Colorado Street roadway and sidewalk infrastructure, between S. Carson Street and Saliman Road, is in poor condition. The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission has allocated funding to make improvements. Please participate in a needs assessment survey to help prioritize future improvements.

Carson City is pleased to offer Christmas Tree Recycling in cooperation with Capital Sanitation/Waste Management, Inc.

As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to one of the drop off locations. Trees will be chipped in the springtime and used as mulch. This program continues to be a huge success.

Please remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases prior to recycling; if the tree is longer than six feet, cut the tree into pieces.

A much welcomed blanket of snow fell over the Carson City, western Nevada and Lake Tahoe areas overnight, giving way to the first snowfall of the season and a relief for the much-needed precipitation in our parched climate.

New school zone hours extended in Carson City area

Updates and changes to school zones have arrived in the Carson City area.

School zones for Bordewich Bray, Carson Middle, Carson High, Eagle Valley, Empire, Fremont, Fritsch, Mark Twain, Pioneer High and Seeliger have been extended from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The installation of new signs and updated times is expected to be completed by the second week of October, 2020.

Sierra Nevada Realtors give time, donations back to rural communities

Earlier this month, members of Sierra Nevada Realtors spent time improving their communities all throughout the region. The annual Realtors Give Back event was special this year because it also included areas outside of Carson City. Members participated in community service as a group in Dayton and gave a generous monetary donation to the Fallon Youth Club and to the Boys and Girls Club of Carson City.

Carson City area weather: Slick roads for morning commute

Light snow fell across parts of western Nevada and the northern Sierra overnight. The heaviest snow of several inches fell along the Sierra Front around Carson City and Minden, south of Reno and the Tahoe basin from Highway 50 south to Markleeville. Other areas saw a light snowfall and water on the roadways has frozen.

Carson City Public Works is currently investigating discolored water in the Stanton Park and Empire Ranch areas in east Carson City. Discoloration is caused by naturally occurring minerals that accumulate in our water system. The water is safe to drink.
