Carson City Sheriff's Office says slow down, take it easy and exercise caution on snowy roads

It looks like winter driving conditions are finally here. We are expected to have blizzard like conditions in and around Carson City for the rest of the week. Carson City Sheriff’s Office encourages drivers to be responsible and exercise caution while driving.

Single vehicle accident reported on Spooner Summit near Highway 28 Saturday evening

Just after 7 p.m. on Saturday evening a single vehicle crash was reported on Spooner Summit near Highway 28.

It is unknown whether or not the vehicle is blocking traffic.

Tahoe-Douglas responders are enroute the area and requested backup from Carson City responders.

Use caution in the area.

Hello fellow anglers! As we welcomed in 2021, many anglers ascended on Topaz Lake to bring in the new year. I and fellow angler Tom Blotter were amongst the many.

At 6 a.m. Tom and I were on the lake waiting for the official start time. There was an eerie fog-like mist lingering over the lake. It was a cool 18 degrees, and the winds were calm. Our first line went into the water at 6:33 a.m. and the first strike came at 7 a.m.

In anticipation of Electoral College demonstrations in the downtown area Wednesday, motorists and patrons are encouraged to avoid the area.

Please anticipate heavy foot traffic throughout downtown area, drive with extreme caution and watch for pedestrians. Plan your travel accordingly, as motorists and pedestrians leave the campaign rally anticipate traffic delays. Both pedestrians and motorists must obey traffic laws.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office sergeant who was injured in a Dec. 20 shooting is returning to his Carson City home from the hospital today, Tuesday with a full law enforcement escort.

A cold front is expected to bring light snow showers and wind beginning late Monday night that may impact the Tuesday morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.

Traffic accident reported at Highway 50 E. at Brown Friday afternoon

Around 1:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon a traffic accident was reported at Highway 50 E. and Brown.

Lyon County is currently on scene and requested additional units from Carson City.

Carson City first responders are currently enroute to the scene.

Motorists should use alternative routes if possible or use caution in the area.

Traffic is backed up on Highway 50 E. near Dump Road due to the Santa Village event at the V&T Railroad.

High winds have knocked out the power all across the western Nevada region, including Carson City, Gardnerville, Dayton, Lake Tahoe, Reno and Sparks.

Governor Sisolak announces positive COVID-19 test result

As part of a regular testing protocol, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak underwent routine COVID-19 testing on Friday, November 13 in Carson City. A rapid test provided a positive result. The Governor also received a diagnostic PCR test and those results are pending at this time.

At this time, the Governor is not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. Earlier this week, the Governor expressed feeling fatigue, however he attributed this to his demanding schedule. No other symptoms were experienced.

CARSON CITY — A member of Governor Steve Sisolak’s staff based in the Capitol Office in Carson City has received a positive result for COVID-19 through a rapid test after developing symptoms over the weekend. The staff member was last in the office on Thursday, October 29, 2020, and was not symptomatic at that time.

Carson City's Mark Twain Elementary to go to full-remote learning for COVID concerns

Due to the number of employees and students who have been advised to isolate from confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Mark Twain Elementary School and out of an abundance of caution, the Carson City School District will temporarily transition the school and its students to full-remote learning until further notice.

Celebrating Halloween in Carson City is really unlike any other place because the holiday sometimes lands on the same day as many Nevada Day festivities are underway. To have a more organized and safe Halloween for children, Carson City will again host its "BOOnanza" celebration this Thursday, and the Children's Museum will host a safe trick or treating event Friday.
