As of Wednesday morning, Heather Brown, 17, is on an artificial life-support system at Renown Regional Medical Center as result of the extensive injuries she suffered in Tuesday's accident, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.
Minden man jailed for making bomb threat, DUI at Stateline, Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 03/31/2013 - 10:43amDouglas County Sheriff's Office authorities have arrested a 29-year-old Minden man for making a bomb threat during a traffic stop late Saturday at Highway 50 and Kahle Drive.
At 10:58 p.m. a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a black Dodge SRT8 at Hwy 50 and Kahle Drive, said Sgt. Pat Brooks.
The driver, Adam Smith, 29, of Minden was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. At the time, Deputies noticed a wire from the front seat to the trunk. They asked Smith about the wire and, he told them, “It’s a bomb.”

The outside westbound lane on Fairview Drive will be closed at this location.

Although short, this stretch of road is currently one of the more dangerous areas in town for cyclists and pedestrians. Safe and well used bicycle facilities exist on either side of Lone Mountain, but cyclists must brave fast traffic and a crumbling shoulder if they wish to connect the two areas. And although pedestrians are instructed not to use this route, no other reasonable routes exist nearby.

The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission has awarded a contract which will connect existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities in Carson City, according to a news release. Roop Street between Winnie Lane and Northridge Drive currently does not have a sidewalk or bike lanes, and people often try to use a narrow strip of concrete against a wall to travel this section of road.
I-580 Freeway to open partially Friday, fully Monday

The three victims traveling in the GMC pickup are as follows:

Passenger: Douglas (Jason) Counterman, 30 of Fernley.
All three men were employees of the Pioneer Crossing Casino properties based in Fernley and Dayton.
Update: 4 Motorists Killed, 3 Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash on US 50 in Lyon County

The crash investigation details learned so far indicate that a 1989 Dodge pick pulling a double-axle livestock trailer carrying 8 young steers or heifers was traveling eastbound on the two-lane highway. Following behind the Dodge and green trailer was a 1995 Ford F-250 towing a white livestock trailer carrying 7 full grown cows.

NHP Trooper Dan Lopez was driving a Ford Crown Victoria sedan patrol call when the driver of another vehicle allegedly ran a red traffic signal at the intersection striking the left side of the patrol car at 5:19 a.m., said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Preliminary numbers show that 243 fatalities occurred on Nevada roads in 2011. This compares to 257 Nevada traffic deaths in 2010.
The reduced fatalities follow a general trend of traffic deaths dropping from an all-time high of 432 in 2006 to 243 in 2011.

Consisting of parallel grooves cut into the middle centerline of a roadway, tires running over the rumble strips produce sound and vibration when drivers veer out of their lane. By alerting and allowing motorists to correct their vehicles, head-on crashes can be reduced.
