Family Summer Party: Carson City's National Night Out arrives Tuesday at Mills Park
Carson City’s National Night Out, the safest outdoor party of the summer, arrives this Tuesday, August 1 at Mills Park, with a host of games, music, activities, and refreshments offered from dozens of agencies and community service organizations designed to promote public safety, awareness and community.
The annual free community event brings hundreds of families and thousands of children to the park for three hours of exploration, education and information from agencies like Care Flight, the Nevada Highway Patrol, Department of Public Safety, Search and Rescue, the Carson City Fire Department and Carson City Sheriff's Office among many others.
The event brings dozens of public safety agencies and community service organizations to the park where families can take part in an assortment of games and activities with safety, health and community in mind. It runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mills Park, 1111 East William Street in Carson City.
"This is an event that offers something for everyone, free food, music, games and great learning opportunities," said National Night Out organizer and DARE Officer Lisa Davis.
"The Carson City Sheriff’s Office event aims to help eliminate crime and substance abuse by heightening citizen awareness, developing law enforcement partnerships, and promoting prevention," she said.
This year, a new program has been added to the lineup, Dog Walker Watch. See the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14clgX2tq_c
Through the years the event has continuously demonstrated a commitment to community awareness, receiving numerous awards and recognition ranking the Carson City community 4th in the nation for attendance for its population.
In honor of National Night Out, Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell signed a proclamation during the Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting July 20 to designate August as National Night Out: Law Enforcement and Public Safety Crime Prevention Month.
The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and Carson City Sheriff’s Office are adding more sparks to the celebration by sponsoring the 34th annual national event.
Tuesday's event marks the 15th year the Carson City Sheriff's Office has partnered with NATW. The focus is prevention and awareness that all types of crime can affect the quality of life throughout the community and bring harm to businesses, citizens and children. For this reason, awareness and prevention can go a long way toward the decreasing of local and national crime rates, said Davis.
Carson City Sheriff’s Department is also spreading a world-wide message toward the attention to crime related issues. Joining cities across America to spread awareness about the prevention of lawful violations, substance abuse, and violence, as they are a direct investment into citizens of all ages.
Cooperation and community awareness is essential for successful crime and safety prevention. Therefore, National Night Out acknowledges the many efforts made by all law enforcement, public safety, mental health and citizen partnerships that help make Carson City a great place to live, said Davis.
