National Miss Curvy Crowns 3 New Queens in Carson City

Nine National Miss Curvy delegates from Guam, Washington State, Texas, California and Nevada, had a very busy weekend in Carson City! We were also joined by our 3 Curvy Ambassadors-Pacific, Guam, and North America.

Jordan Van Worth is a Carson City native just about to compete for the esteemed title of Miss Nevada! Jordan recently graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with both her Master’s in Quantitative Finance and her JD in Corporate Law, upon her graduation she was recruited a multitude of universities to continue her studies in finance as a PhD candidate.

Jehovah’s Witnesses continue their ministry inside prisons without sending in ministers

COVID-19 shut down access to most U.S. prisons, including the  Lovelock Correctional Center located in Lovelock, Nevada,  where  Joe Arceo of Carson City volunteers with a group of Jehovah’s Witness ministers. Without warning, inmates were cut off from a robust Bible education program that included weekly Bible-based discourses, audience discussions, individual Bible studies and video presentations.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue is recruiting new members

Five Carson City residents vying for Ward 3 seat on Board of Supervisors, appointment on Nov. 4

The seat for Ward 3 is currently held by Supervisor Lori Bagwell, who will be vacating now that she has been elected Carson City’s mayor.

CARSON CITY — High school students graduating from a Nevada high school in spring 2021 and planning to attend Western Nevada College in fall 2021 must apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship no later than Oct. 31, 2020.

Sierra Nevada Realtors give time, donations back to rural communities

Earlier this month, members of Sierra Nevada Realtors spent time improving their communities all throughout the region. The annual Realtors Give Back event was special this year because it also included areas outside of Carson City. Members participated in community service as a group in Dayton and gave a generous monetary donation to the Fallon Youth Club and to the Boys and Girls Club of Carson City.

Senator Square: Here comes the sun and Carson High School's class of 2021

They wore pajamas, were wrapped in blankets, and carried cups of Dutch Bros and Starbucks as they gathered to celebrate the beginning of their senior year and the almost end of the soothing summer weather. The Class of 2020-2021, while practicing social distancing and wearing the latest fashion in face masks, gathered together at 6:00 a.m. Sept. 4 on the bleachers of the CHS football field to watch their sun rise.

Supervisor and former fire chief to speak at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon

Stacey Giomi, Ward 1 Supervisor, former Fire Chief, and Regional Director of Operations for Rural Programs and Director of Facilities & Emergency Preparedness at Nevada Health Centers, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic Men's Committee's tele-luncheon. Nevada Health Centers is a state-wide organization that provides medical and dental care to over 50,000 low-income, uninsured, underinsured and geographically isolated residents of Nevada. It is the largest community health center in Nevada, with locations in seven different Nevada counties.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. Q&D Construction Leads Major Projects in Carson City

Q&D Construction, a Northern Nevada contractor, will lead construction on the Heroes Memorial Building renovation project in Carson City, the new emergency department and covered connector at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and the Elko County Osino Interchange, and will co-lead the construction of a terminal expansion at Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell, Mont.

Senator Square: Carson’s got game is the theme of 2020 Winterfest

Winterfest is here, and the theme, Carson's Got Game, is more than just a nice motto, it is a series of multiple physical board games, playground games, and video games. According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”
