A Celebration of Life ceremony will get underway at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, for Carson City Mayor and native Nevadan Robert “Bob” Crowell.

Carson City Mayor Robert 'Bob' Crowell dies

Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. "Bob" Crowell died overnight. He was 74.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.

As new ballots are counted in Carson City election, assumed wins may become more complicated

Carson City's Election Night results announced

Due to the nature of the 2020 Nevada voting procedure, which included a large number of mail-in ballots, these results are not final until June 16th. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by today, June 9, 2020, to be counted. The clerk's office must receive the postmarked ballots by June 16, 2020 when the results will be finalized.

UPDATE 11:40 p.m.: The Secretary of State's Office updated their election results, stating the first results should now be posted at midnight. The last update stated results were anticipated at 10 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the polls closed throughout Nevada, and as of 9 p.m. results have begun to be announced. This story will be updated as new results come in.

Carson City health officials report presumptive positive case of coronavirus

UPDATE 4:06PM: Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) held a press conference Thursday afternoon regarding the first reported presumptive positive case of COVID-19, which is this first reported case in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.

The patient is a woman in her 70s who recently traveled out of the state to San Jose and returned on March 2. She flew on an airplane into Reno-Tahoe International Airport while she was asymptomatic. The plane or airline she traveled with was not disclosed during the conference.

Each year, National Read Across America Day is observed on March 2, the birthday of children’s book author Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.
