The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Devan Doan, one of five primary candidates for Mayor of Carson City. Since graduating from UNR in 2014, Devan has made his mark in the renewable energy industry. Early voting for the June 11 primary starts on May 25th and will run through Friday, June 7th. The primary's top two will go on to the November 5th general election.

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jason Hastings, one of five candidates for Mayor of Carson City. Jason earned a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from UNR in 2012. The primary is set for June 11, with early voting beginning on May 25th. The top two will advance to the general election.

The Men's Caucus of the Carson City Democrats periodically presents its Golden Bow Tie Award to a man who has made invaluable contributions to the community, and in their view deserves recognition as a worthy male role model.

Carson City's Democratic men's group (of which I am currently chair) periodically presents its Golden Bowtie Award to men who have made significant contributions to the community and deserve recognition as worthy male role models. Ron Norton, founder and CEO of ComputerCorps, fits that description perfectly. That's why he is our 2024 Golden Bowtie Award honoree.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell. Lori began her service on the Board of Supervisors in January, 2015, representing Ward 3, and was elected mayor in 2020. She is known for her budget expertise, attention to detail on contracts, her compassion for those in need, and most of all her ability to work with others for the mutual benefit of the community.

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Aaron Sims, the Democratic candidate for Nevada State Senate District 16, and Shannon McDaniel, the Democratic candidate for Nevada State Assembly, District 40. In the November 8th general election, they will face off against Republican Senate candidate Lisa Krasner and incumbent GOP Assemblyman P.K. O'Neill.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Aaron Sims, candidate for Nevada State Senate District 16, which emcompasses all of Carson City and parts of South Washoe County. Not having any Democratic primary opposition, he will advance to the November 8th general election. There he will face off against the winner of the June 14th Republican primary. The GOP contenders are Timothy Duvall, Lisa Krasner, Monica Stabbert and incumbent Don Tatro.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon be Stacie Wilke-McCulloch, candidate for Carson City Clerk-Recorder. She represented District 3 on the Carson City School District Board of Trustees twice, from 1999 to 2003 and again from 2009 to present. Prior to the main event, Henderson mayor and Lt Governor candidate Debra March, who will be present as part of a campaign swing through the northern counties, will be afforded an opportunity to introduce herself and say a few words.

A pre-opening ribbon cutting was held by the Carson City Chamber on Tuesday, Jan. 19 to herald the grand opening of Carson City’s Chick-fil-A located at 4751 Cochise just off S. Carson Street turning on W. Appion Way and left on Cochise.

The newly elected Board of Supervisors, including Mayor Lori Bagwell, Supervisor Lisa Schuette, Supervisor Mo White, and appointed supervisor Stan Jones, along with Supervisor Stacey Giomi, met for their first board meeting of 2021 on Thursday.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will get underway at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, for Carson City Mayor and native Nevadan Robert “Bob” Crowell.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, by executive order, Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and State public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, October 29, 2020 as a mark of solemn respect and in remembrance of Carson City Mayor and native Nevadan Robert “Bob” Crowell, whose memorial is being held Thursday.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission discussed renaming the MAC and the Community Center’s Sierra Room in honor of the late Mayor Bob Crowell during their meeting Monday.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament in remembrance of Mayor Bob Crowell will be held at Silver Oak Ranch Golf Course on Saturday. Dozens of fundraisers, including the Benson’s Feed 4 Paws 4-H group, will be scattered throughout the Carson City and Gardnerville areas. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament, scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 24, is quickly selling out, but there are a few spaces left to enjoy the first event of its kind in over a decade.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted to create a new ordinance relating to hemp cultivation within city limits on Thursday, allowing for indoor cultivation within certain zoning districts, effectively blocking outdoor agricultural cultivation.

While the seat for Ward 2 will be filled following the election on Nov. 4, another seat is open and will be filled by appointment.

The seat for Ward 3 is currently held by Supervisor Lori Bagwell, who will be vacating now that she has been elected Carson City’s mayor.

The Nevada Day Golf Tournament is returning to Carson City this Nevada Day after a long absence from the capital city.

According to Ken Hamilton, Executive Director of Nevada Day, the Golf Tournament is making a comeback this year for the first time in over a decade.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell — who brought dignity to the office, the city and Nevada through his intelligence and kindness — died overnight at age 74.
