Happy Sunday Carson City! I don't know about you, but I've had it with this cold weather already! Here are some great events to defy the cold, check below to see what's going on in the Carson City region for Sunday, Dec. 15!

Carson City Santa Events Roundup for 2019: How, when and where you can find Old St. Nick (all day). While it isn't quite Christmas-weather yet, I'm assuming at some point it will get cold and we can finally get into the upcoming holiday spirit! When that time comes, there are a ton of great Santa-related events going on in Carson City for you and the little ones to enjoy.

Santa Train steams up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2180 S. Carson St. The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City launches its 35th year of Santa Train the weekend of Dec. 7 and tickets are available online and at the museum’s depot now.

V&T Candy Cane Express in Virginia City. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m at the Virgina and Truckee Depot, 166 F St. If the kiddies and grandma have been good all year (okay, most of the year)… add a little magic to the season and come on out to Virginia City to ride the V&T Candy Cane Express. Steeped in holiday spirit, this whimsical train has become a local tradition for families of all ages.

Cookies with Santa is back at Gather in Carson City. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 402 N. Carson St. Bring your child for cookies with santa and take home a memorable photo. Gather is serving complimentary house made cookies by Dana's Desserts of Carson City.

Baking Italian Christmas. 12 to 3 p.m. at Sierra Chef in Genoa. Arrive on time for class and please wear appropriate clothing. $65 per person.

Nevada Raider Nation Carson Chapter Game Watch. 1 p.m. at Jimmy G’s in Carson City. Sunday will be the Raiders last home game in the Oakland Coliseum. Join other die-hard Raiders fans as we bid farewell to what has been the heart of our, Oakland Raiders.

Edible Art with Chef Pete in Virginia City. 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Art Center, 55 North R Street. Create edible artwork in the magical and historical St. Mary’s Art Center! Executive Pastry Chef Pete Paulos will teach students how to create delicious filled pastry towers made for sharing! Plus, students get to take home their own creation for the holiday season.

Carson City's 36h Holiday Treat Concert happens this Sunday at Community Center. The concert begins at 4 p.m. It's a Holiday Treat for all and a feast of seasonal and holiday entertainment in many styles. The Carson City Symphony and Carson Chamber Singers, joined by the Victorian Dancers, present the 36th annual Holiday Treat concert this Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center.

Carson City Parks and Recreation to host Homestand Holidays at Silver Saddle Ranch. 5 to 8 p.m. at 2648 Carson River Rd. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites the community to the inaugural Homestead Holidays event at Silver Saddle Ranch, Dec. 13-15, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night. Homestead Holidays is intended to be an old-fashioned holiday celebration with handcrafted decorations, holiday lights ornamenting historic ranch buildings, and family activities for all ages.

19th Annual Drive-Through Living Nativity continues Sunday. 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Carson City First United Methodist Church will once again be re-enacting the night of Christ’s birth at it’s 19th Annual Drive-Through Living Nativity. Since 2001, the Church has been telling the story of Christmas through it's Living Nativity, which for many in our community, has become a favorite holiday tradition. Lit by 800 luminaria and occupying an entire city block, ten scenes are depicted as cars drive down "The Road to Bethlehem." Walkers also enjoy the story from a special walking path. Go back in time and visit the glorious story that started it all! There is no cost to experience it. Donations of non-perishable food items will be graciously accepted for those in need. The Living Nativity will run both Saturday and Sunday, December 14th and 15th 6:30-8:00 pm.

Camp GOTR (Girls on the Run) is coming to Carson City for the second year in a row! Camp GOTR will be a week-long, half-day summer camp from 8 AM- 12 PM at the Carson City Community Center the week of August 5th- August 9th.

Girls on the Run Sierras is a character-building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade operating in the Reno-Tahoe area.

A number of new Junior Park Rangers received their badges as they were sworn in as part of the annual Junior Park Rangers Day in Carson City.

On April 24, 2024, at approximately 4:48 a.m., the Nevada State Police responded to a crash at the location of IR580 southbound near mile marker CC01 in Carson City, Nevada. (Near the Snyder Ave. overpass).

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.
