Nationally recognized western singer-songwriter duo to perform in Carson City
Tom May and Chris Kennedy are scheduled to perform in Carson City, NV at The Brewery Arts Center performance hall, 511 West King St., Friday, July 25 at 7:30P p.m.
Tom May is a folksinger, songwriter and author who has been touring, performing, and recording for over forty years. He is also the host/producer of the radio show, “River City Folk,” heard on dozens of radio stations weekly since 1985 and on XM Satellite Radio throughout the country.
Tom has released 15 albums and has performed with and opened for artists such as Gordon Lightfoot, Willie Nelson, and Alabama. He sings of western history, his Nebraska roots, and vignettes along the way from Canada, Ireland, and Alaska and beyond. In 2008 his book, “Promoting Your Music; The Lovin’ of the Game” commissioned by Routledge Publishers, New York was released. It has had multiple printings and is available in e-book form. Tom will conduct a music business workshop at the BAC on Saturday, July 26 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Maizie Harris Jesse Theater at 449 W King Street. This is a free event.
Chris Kennedy sings of trains, wild places, and western changes, with 4 albums of mostly original songs to his credit; some of which have been featured in documentaries. Chris has also performed throughout the country and has shared the stage with artists such as Boxcar Willie, Tom Paxton, and many others. He regularly presents programs through the Wyoming Council for the Humanities on a variety of topics such as rivers, highways, and social movements. Chris is also a student and collector of railroad songs, and will perform “Songs of the Railroad” at the Nevada State Railroad Museum Wabuska depot on Saturday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is a free event.
Together, Tom and Chris have performed in assorted venues and concert halls in locations such as Juneau, Alaska; Billings, Montana; Omaha, Nebraska; Green River, Wyoming and many others. Their duo performances are joyous events, laced with humor, great harmonies, fine guitar work, and both old and new songs. In 2013 Tom and Chris released a duo album “Before the Time Slips Away.”
Tickets for the Tom May/Chris Kennedy concert at the Brewery Arts Center on Friday, July 25th are $12 general admission, $8 student and senior, and $6 for BAC members. The music business workshop and music at the Nevada Railroad Museum on Saturday, July 26th are both free events sponsored by the BAC in support of the arts and culture in its community.
