Carson City sheriff’s log: Deputies make arrests for battery, DUI and child endangerment

A 32-year-old woman and Carson City Jail inmate faces a felony battery charge after a fight inside the detention center on Saturday morning, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Latisia Allana Gonzales was arrested Saturday, 7 a.m. for felony suspicion of battery by a prisoner. According to the arrest report, a deputy assigned to booking heard yelling coming from a cell. The officer observed two females fighting each other with both women swinging and hitting each other with fists. Deputies broke up the fight, separated the women and began to investigate.

Video camera footage of the incident showed the victim was standing at a cell door with her back facing Gonzales who was around six feet away. The suspect then stood up, ran toward the victim, pulling the back of her hair, taking her to the ground. Both inmates began punching each other on the ground. After reviewing the video, Gonzales was arrested for battery by a prisoner. Bail: $20,000.

In other arrests:
— A 34-year-old Carson City man, Juan Sanchez-Martinez, was arrested Saturday, 5:09 a.m. in the 100 block of East Telegraph Street for felony suspicion of a third DUI and misdemeanor open container.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant observed a vehicle backing into the street and then parking in front of a bar, repeating the action. The officer made contact with the man driving the vehicle who smelled of a strong odor of alcohol. Inside the car was an open Corona beer.

The man agreed to do field sobriety tests and failed the tests. He blew a preliminary breath test of .198. He was taken into custody for DUI. Dispatch stated the man had a DUI 2011 DUI conviction in Lyon County and a second conviction in 2013 in Sparks. He was charged with third DUI. Bail: $20,192.

— A 32-yer-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday for felony suspicion of domestic battery after he allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face and was in a standoff with officers for more than two hours.

Mark Samaniego was arrested after Carson City SWAT members breached the door of the home located in the 4200 block of Pheasant Drive.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at 11:45 p.m. to the home in reference to a domestic battery. When officers approached the residence they could hear Samaniego yelling “f*** this” and “I’ll f**king shoot everyone” from inside the garage of the residence.

Deputies then observed the man enter the house from the garage door into the house, the garage door and into the kitchen pulling out what appeared to be handgun from the cabinet. He reached into the cabinet and grabbed another item and it sounded as if someone was loading a magazine into a firearm. He was ordered to exit the residence and refused. He said he would not leave and for deputies to go away.

Another deputy met with the victim who was bleeding from the mouth, had chipped teeth and lacerations on her face. She told the deputy that the man punched her in the face several times with a closed fist. She said that when she called 911, the man told her that the cops would get some too, the arrest report states.

At around 1:30 a.m. SWAT breached the door with a flash bang device after securing a telephonic search warrant. Samaniego exited the residence without further incident. He was arrested for battery causing substantial bodily harm. He is being held in Carson City jail. Bail: $15,000.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 5:01 a.m. in the area of East Proctor and North Stewart streets for misdemeanor suspicion of obstructing an officer. According to the arrest report, deputies were in the area assisting with a DUI investigation.
The woman was asked to leave the scene due to her being argumentative and disruptive. She was instructed multiple times to leave the scene or she would be placed under arrest for obstruction.

She left and then returned and began yelling to her boyfriend stating “if you go down, I’m going down,” the arrest report states. She was again instructed to leave. She told the officer “no, I’m going down too,” according to the report. She refused to stop yelling to her boyfriend and was arrested. Bail: $412.

— A 50-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 9:39 p.m. in the area of Carson and Musser streets for a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant. Bail: $1,000.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 3:28 p.m. for three counts suspicion of gross misdemeanor child endangerment and six misdemeanor charges: two counts failing to stop at stop signs, DUI drugs, driving on a suspended driver’s license, speeding, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Division and Spear. The deputy followed the vehicle, pacing it at 36 mph in a 25 mph zone. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stops with the man failing to stop at stop signs on two streets, speeding up, slowing down and driving erratically.

The man pulled over, slamming his brakes at 10th and Curry. The sergeant approached the driver who apologized and said that his music was too loud. The officer told him of his moving violations. The man said he did not have a driver’s license. When he was asked for his registration and insurance, the man pulled out a stack of receipts and handed them to the officer, the arrest report states

The sergeant observed a Dr. Pepper can in the glove box, and asked the man if he could look at it. It was a pipe can with burnt marijuana residue. Inside the vehicle were three children, ages 12, 8 and 6. The officer asked the man if he had recently smoked marijuana and the man said he had taken a couple hits less than an hour prior. A deputy arrived on scene to conduct a DUI investigation. The man was unable to complete standardized field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was arrested. The registered owner of the vehicle arrived on scene to pick up her kids and gave officers consent to search the vehicle. Inside was a plastic bag of marijuana in the center console. Bail: $6,352.

— A 32-year-old Carson City woman, Alexis Victoria Hill, was arrested Friday, 4:44 p.m. in the area of Stewart and Long streets for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and two counts possession of paraphernalia. Officers found a 10th of a gram of a controlled substance, a “tooter” straw, commonly used to inhale narcotics and a small glass pipe with a bulb on the end. Bail: $4,774.

— A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 7;10 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for misdemeanor suspicion of petit larceny and a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant issued out of Reno Township. The woman was stopped by store security after attempting to steal $36.50 in merchandise from the store. Deputies confirmed the warrant. Bail: $1,352.

— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 2:06 p.m. in the 1000 block of Elm Street for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued Nov. 29, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $840.

— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 8:38 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Edmonds Drive for misdemeanor warrants for violation of an extended protection order and contempt of court. Bail: $8,000.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 12:44 a.m. in the 2000 block of Rapids Court for three misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued July 12, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $6,500.

The application deadline for Mile High Band Association’s 2024 Jazz & Beyond Festival art contest is Friday, May 31. Northern Nevada artists, including teachers and students are invited to apply, and participation is free.

Selected entries in the competition will be used to promote the festival, and the winning entry will be featured on the festival’s advertising poster and program cover. Festival T-shirts may also feature the winning design.
