RSVP Nevada Day Fair to feature Day of Service, Carson City Victory Rollers
The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is hosting the Nevada Day Carnival and Fair for a third decade at Mills Park over the Nevada Day weekend.
Now in its 31st year, RSVP’s Nevada Day Carnival and Fair provides a fun family entertainment venue during the Silver State’s statehood celebration.
Fair and carnival festivities begin Thursday, Oct. 27 from 5 to 9 p.m.
All rides on that first day will be just $1 each, said Nevada Rural RSVP Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Susan Haas.
“Thursday Family night is made possible in partnership and as a courtesy of Carson-City Toyota Scion,” she said.
The event opens at noon Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28-30 with weekend activities to include carnival rides, Karaoke, DJ and live music, as well as food and vendors.
RSVP will also host the United Blood Services blood drive on Friday, Oct. 28, from 1-5 p.m. No appointments are necessary. Walk-ins are welcome.
Wristbands for all-day unlimited rides cost $30. Visit the RSVP booth at Mills Park for a $5 off coupon during the fair and carnival.
Featured on Saturday, Oct. 29 will be the “Day of Service” event, which gives recognition to community agencies that provide service and assistance to those in need.
“RSVP continues to support our fellow community service partners with a ‘Day of Service’ event in honor of all of the wonderful agencies that provide service and assistance to others,” Haas said.
Capping Saturday’s events will be a roller derby double-header by the Carson City Victory Rollers, who will compete at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion on the east end of Mills Park.
Doors for the competition open at 3:30 p.m. The junior bout begins at 4 p.m. and the adult bout starts at 6 p.m.
Haas said the Nevada Day Carnival and Fair is an ideal venue for families to celebrate Nevada Day while supporting RSVP’s senior volunteer efforts in the rural communities throughout Nevada.
“This is a great opportunity for holiday shopping with great craft vendors, listening to music or taking your place on stage for Karaoke, and watching Roller Derby while supporting a worthwhile cause in our community,” she said. Come out to Mills Park after the Nevada Day Parade and join the fun.”
Proceeds from the RSVP Nevada Day Carnival and Fair go toward assisting RSVP’s mission to help frail, homebound, and low-income seniors remain independent by providing high quality programs which allow them to stay in their homes with dignity, Haas said.
RSVP also coordinates a volunteer network of seniors who use their talents to provide support to community agencies and address community needs through service, she said.
