DAYTON — Community Roots garden center has a large selection of fresh cut Christmas trees to fill your home with that classic fir fragrance and remind you of happy holiday memories.

Agriculture and art meet to showcase the region’s artisans and ag students at the 3rd Annual Ag & Artisan Holiday Faire Saturday, Dec. 2, at the historic Storke Dairy, 876C Centerville Lane in Gardnerville, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event features exhibits and demonstrations from Douglas County 4-H, Grange and FFA students, an exhibit of antique farm implements found on the property during renovations and roping demonstrations. Santa makes an appearance between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for family selfies during the event.

St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City fills four floors with festivities and over 30 tables of one-of-a-kind creations by exceptional artists, writers, and makers.  Join us for this fun event in a beautiful historic building and support your local area artists, writers, and makers, just in time for unique and thoughtful gift giving.

VIRGINIA CITY — Dec. 4-5, 2021, St. Mary’s Art Center, historic landmark and former St. Mary Louise Hospital built in 1875, will host more than 22 artists and makers for a festive, vibrant and fun weekend of arts, crafts, refreshments, and holiday music.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Virginia City will kick off its Candy Cane Express and Train of Lights on Friday with all day train rides. Small Business Saturday will begin in downtown Carson City with COVID-19 restrictions put in place. Combined with pool tournaments at Bulldog Billiards and live music at Living the Good Life, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement! Read on for more information.

Crowds have often flocked to the major corporate retailers in Carson City for the best deals of the season, and in recent years, stores have begun to open earlier and earlier for a leg up, breaching into Thanksgiving day. However this year, many stores are finally closing their doors on Thanksgiving Day, and more bargain hunters are turning to online deals for their holiday shopping.

Retailers in Nevada and throughout the United States are ramping up hiring campaigns for the all-important holiday shopping season. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates retailers will boost hiring by 4,700 positions during the holiday shopping period.

Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. Heading into Monday, it sure does feel like Christmas around the capital City. With only two shopping days left until Christmas be sure stop by the Carson Mall for the final days of its Holiday Craft Show. Weather wise we're looking at some valley snow showers into the afternoon and evening. Activities include a spirited discussion by local historian CW Bayer about the origins of Reno's tawdry reputation, plus Carson Cigar Company will hold its annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party. Compared to the last six years, 2019 has the fewest holiday shopping days. This could create an unexpected problem: a reduction in the amount of charitable giving by holiday shoppers. If realized, this deficit could hinder the country’s largest social service provider’s ability to provide critical services to people in need in 2020. The vast majority of giving to The Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettles happens after Thanksgiving.

Once the dishes were done from Thanksgiving dinner, shoppers kicked off the shopping weekend immediately and headed to stores and online retailers to take advantage of deals and discounts over the long weekend and Cyber Monday. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates that more than 1.7 million people spent a total of $638.9 million on gifts, decorations and other merchandise over the five-day period.

The annual Carson Mall Holiday Craft Show is now underway! Every day until Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can visit the Carson Mall in Carson City, which has been turned into a winter wonderland.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 31st season of the Nutcracker Ballet, a Feast with a Hero fundraiser at Slot World, Small Business Saturday throughout Carson City and Carson Valley, photos with Santa, a Telegraph Square sign dedication, Polar Express train rides at the V&T Railroad and more!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Carson City residents showed up in masses to start their holiday shopping. Carson High School (CHS) played host to over a hundred crafters, artisans, candy makers, knitters and even more happy shoppers at this weekend’s 25th Annual Holiday Craft Fair.

Everyone knows about Black Friday. Major retailers dishing out major discounts the day after turkey day. Lesser known but widely growing is Small Business Saturday, small business’ answer to Black Friday.

Retailers in Nevada and nationwide have ramped up hiring campaigns in preparation for the 2019 holiday shopping season. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates retailers will boost hiring by 7,100 new positions during the October-to-December holiday shopping period.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

The 2019 Silver State Art Festival is the third annual gathering in Carson City of award-winning gourd artists, painters, photographers, wood, glass and metal artists and from all over the Southwest. The festival runs Sept. 13-15 at Fuji Exhibit Hall, Park & Pavilion in Carson City.

Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 delivered in a heroic way Tuesday night by presenting organizers of the Holiday with a Hero project with a contribution of $4,000 for the Christmas shopping program for local students in need.
