Carson City sheriff’s weekend arrest log: Jail inmate faces felony assault, drug charges

A 24-year-old inmate in the Carson City Jail faces a felony charge of battery by a prisoner after allegedly punching another inmate in the face on Sunday, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Jacob Martin Madden was jailed earlier Sunday on a felony drug charge after officers found 1.8 grams of heroin during a traffic stop for speeding. He was originally stopped for going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone at Carson and Robinson streets. A K9 drug dog, Ivo, did an exterior sniff of the vehicle, which led to a positive alert and subsequent search.

In the altercation with the inmate, Madden allegedly punched an inmate in the nose without warning after the inmate said hello to him, according to the arrest report. The victim was taken to the hospital for stitches after sustaining a cut on the right side of the nose.

Deputies reviewed video footage which shows Madden punching the inmate. When Madden was read his Miranda Rights, he requested to have an attorney present. Bail: $23,737.
