Carson City arrest log: Intoxicated woman jailed on child endangerment charge

A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday at an Airport Road apartment on a gross misdemeanor charge of child neglect and endangerment and a warrant for failure to appear in court, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the residence at 7 p.m. to assist Carson City Fire Department with an uncooperative woman. The suspect was highly intoxicated and arguing with personnel as they tried to treat her intoxicated boyfriend who was having chest pains.

Fire department personnel said that with the boyfriend going to the hospital, the woman was the only one at the residence to take care of five children that lived there. The woman invited officers into the apartment. As she spoke she slurred her speech and swayed. The officer told her he had come to the apartment to check on the safety of the children there.

She walked into a bedroom then started walking into the hallway. As she stepped she walked into one of the children who had been crawling on the floor. The woman walked into the child with her right leg striking the child’s head causing the child's head to strike the door frame, the arrest report states.

She then went to pick up the child which had turned on their belly. She attempted to pick the child up by their shoulders. She picked the baby up by about an inch and then let the child fall back to the floor. The officer tried to get the woman to leave the child alone so she could not harm them. She picked up the child again. A member of the fire department was able to get the woman to pass him the uninjured child.

The deputy observed the home to be very dirty, with unkempt bedrooms and sticky floors in the bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen had old food on the counter tops with a shot glass and a bottle of Jack Daniels on the counter. In one of the bedrooms a one-month old was sleeping on a full sized bed.

The officer had the woman checked through dispatch for warrants. The woman had a confirmed warrant issued by Reno Township Justice Court with $825 bail. The woman was arrested and blew a .190. There were five children living in the home, ages 11, 8, 3, 1 and 1 month. Child Protective Service responded. Bail: $3,462.
