Carson City area Monday commute: School delays, road conditions and forecast
A winter storm continues to bring a mixture of rain and heavy wet snow to the valley floor Monday morning, making for school and commute delays around the Carson City region.
Carson City Public Works has been out in full force plowing and sanding local roadways. At around 4:30 a.m. a vehicle slide off of Curry Street down an embankment across from the railroad museum. The man was not injured. Otherwise, no major incidents so far this morning. Around 1 to 3 inches of snow fell overnight into this morning around the capital city.

— On US-50 from mile post 14.0 in Carson City County to mile post 29.4 in Lyon County.
— Chains or snow tires required on I-580 from Eastlake Boulevard (Exit 44) to Mt Rose Highway (Exit 56) in Nevada.
— chains or snow tires required on I-580 from Eastlake Boulevard to in Carson City.
— Chains required, all vehicles except 4-wheel drive with snow tres - on US-50 from Spooner Junction to mile post 7.6 in Carson City.
— Chains or snow tires required on SR-28 from US-50 Junction to Secret Harbor Chain Up Area.
— Chains required, all vehicles except 4-wheel drive with snow tires on SR-207 (Kingsbury Grade) from US-50 Junction to Daggett Pass chain up area.
Carson City School District has canceled classes for the day as has Western Nevada College's Carson City campus. Both made the announcement shortly before 9 a.m.
From the Douglas County School District: Due to inclement weather, buses will be on a 90-minute delay on Monday, Dec. 2 for all schools, Valley and Lake. The district says parents can expect buses to pick up students 90 minutes later than their regularly scheduled pick up time.
All Storey County schools are closed. No word yet on delays from Lyon County School District.

For Carson City, Carson Valley and Reno area, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service. We can expect rain and wet snow mix for valleys, wet snow in foothills. Additional 1 to 3 inches of heavy, wet snow above 5000 feet, less than an inch of slushy accumulation for lower valleys.
Travel could be difficult. Wet roads may re-freeze and become icy for the Monday morning commute. The weather service notes a slight chance of freezing rain Monday morning mainly across the Carson Valley. For Lake Tahoe and the Sierra a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Heavy snow expected. An additional 1 to 2 feet of heavy wet snow mainly above 7,500 feet. 3-6 inches possible below 7,000 feet with 1-2 inches possible at lake level.
Snow and rain showers will continue in the Sierra with moderate to heavy snow accumulating above 7000 feet through late this evening. This storm will continue to produce a mix of snow, rain, and possibly ice for Sierra valleys and out across western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.
