Carson City arrests: Man who drove through planter and trees jailed for suspicion of third DUI

A 51-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Friday for felony suspicion of a third DUI and other charges after driving through landscaping at a casino parking lot, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Robert Stoddard May II was taken into custody at 1:41 a.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East. He also faces misdemeanor charges of due care and driving without a valid license.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to a casino in reference to an accident. The officer observed a vehicle in the parking lot that was still running with a male occupant inside. There was a debris trail from where the vehicle went through some trees crossing Brown Street. The vehicle ran over another tree and planter in the parking lot and finally came to rest on the sidewalk, the arrest report states.

The deputy made contact with May who had red, watery eyes and appeared intoxicated. The officer asked if he had been drinking and the man replied he had been drinking vodka, the arrest report states. Dispatch advised the man’s driver’s license was expired.

May was asked to exit the vehicle for field sobriety tests. The deputy had to hold him up to keep him from falling down and had to lean against his vehicle to keep himself standing, the report states. He was asked to submit to a preliminary breath test in which he refused.

He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI, due care and driving without a valid license. He was read the Nevada Implied Consent in which he stated he would not volunteer any tests. A judge was contacted and allowed for a warrant to draw blood. Dispatch did a criminal history on the man that showed two prior DUIs, including a 2010 conviction from Sparks Municipal Court. Jail staff was able to get a preliminary breath test of .246. Bail: $20,339.

In other arrests:
— A 30-year-old Carson City man, Kristopher Robert Ackenback, was arrested Thursday, 7:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Way for a felony warrant alleging burglary and a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant. Bail: $20,200.

— A Carson City woman, Amy Denise Berumen, was arrested Thursday, 3:54 p.m. in the area of Pheasant and Fairview streets for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, open container and failure to stop at the limit line.

According to the arrest report, a deputy assigned with the Carson City Special Enforcement Team made a traffic stop after the vehicle didn’t stop at the stop sign and stopped into a crosswalk. The deputy made contact with the woman. A K9 did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive. A search was made where a deputy located a piece of foil with burnt heroin on it. In a travel mug was an alcoholic beverage.

A deputy learned while talking with the woman that she had a pipe on her body, which was removed by a female probation officer. The pipe and substance inside tested positive for methamphetamine. Bail: $3,936.

— A 22-year-old man, Ignacio Cano, was booked into jail Nov. 29 for a felony warrant alleging grand larceny. The warrant was issued April 26, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. He also had a gross misdemeanor warrant for conspiracy to commit grand larceny. Bail: $5,000.

— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 8 p.m. in the 2400 block of Havenwood Court for two misdemeanor warrants for violation of pre-trial supervision. Warrants were issued Oct. 21 and Nov. 4, according to the arrest report. Bail: $6,000.

— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 9:21 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, driving on a suspended license, speeding 16 to 20 over the limit, and having no proof of insurance.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop after pacing a vehicle going 42 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Dispatch advised the man’s license was suspended and he did not have current proof of insurance. The officer could smell an odor of alcohol and observed signs of intoxication. The man was asked if he had been drinking, The man replied he had two beers.

The man was asked to exit the vehicle for field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on 3 out of four tests, the arrest report states. He was placed into custody for suspicion of DUI and stated he wanted a blood draw and then changed his mind and stated he wanted to submit a breath test.

He again changed his mind at jail and said he wanted a blood draw. The officer asked the man if this was a game he was going to play. The man replied yes, it was a game he was going to play, the arrest report states. The phlebotomist arrived and administered a blood draw. Bail: $2,643.

— A 38-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Thursday, 9:39 a.m. in the 2100 block of East William Street for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Nov. 15, 2016 and possession of drug paraphernalia, a meth pipe. Bail: $11,137.

— A 43-year-old Mound House woman was booked into jail Thursday, 12:55 p.m. for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Nov. 17 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $5,000.

— An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 11:51 a.m. in the area of Century Circle for two misdemeanor failure to appear traffic warrants. Bail: $1,365.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.
