Western Nevada College releases Dean's List for Carson City and beyond
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sun, 01/10/2021 - 12:05pmDespite the changes in learning platforms brought on by the coronavirus, Western Nevada College is proud to announce that more than a third of its full-time students were still able to make the fall semester dean’s list.
The WNC Fall 2020 Dean’s List includes 408 students, accounting for 34.7 percent of the college’s full-time students.

Carson City Fire Department was called Thursday afternoon to assist Central Lyon Fire for a chemical fire in the area of 16 Bruce Way off of Industrial Parkway in Mound House.

Dayton Chamber awarded $14,150 for rural map project

Bureau of Land Management's Carson District removes 45 vehicles abandoned on public land

Many of the vehicles were removed from the Mound House area east of Carson City and north of Reno in the Sun Valley area.

The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. Western Nevada College's Record Graduating Class of 2020 honored in drive-through ceremony

WNC graduated a record 650 students, including 94 students from the Jump Start College Program.

NHP investigates fatal crash in Mound House on Highway 50
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 04/24/2020 - 4:24pmOn Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at approximately 3:42 PM, NHP Troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash involving two vehicles on US-50 and Highlands Drive in Mound House.
The preliminary investigation shows a green 1999 Honda CR-V and red 2011 Subaru Legacy were traveling eastbound on US-50. The Legacy slowed to make a right turn onto Highlands Drive.
For unknown reasons, the CR-V crossed into the travel lane occupied by the Legacy and struck the left rear of the vehicle.
Serious injury crash Thursday involving motorcycle on US 50 in Dayton shuts down eastbound lane

Carson City, Lyon County rescue crews respond to fatal crash at US 50 near Bunny Ranch Road

Carson City Fire Department, Lyon County rescue and emergency responders were called Wednesday afternoon to the area of Highway 50 East near Bunny Ranch Road for a serious injury crash.
Mayor demands how many masks Carson City has, emergency operations declines to answer
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Thu, 04/02/2020 - 2:41pmAn update was given to the Carson City Board of Supervisors regarding emergency operations being provided by Carson City Health and Human Services as well as the quad county Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
During the discussions, Tom Raw, Deputy Emergency Manager for the EOC, said they do not want to publicly disclose the amount of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) the city has. Carson City Health and Human Services Director Nicki Aaker also said they have stopped putting in orders for PPE since orders were not fulfilled in the past.
Dayton Chamber Awarded Rural Tourism & Marketing Grant
