New restaurant, Carson City Joe's, to serve up classic American fare at North Carson location
A Virginia City burger joint will be expanding its reach into the capital city with “Carson City Joe’s” taking the place of the old Saffron on the corner of North Carson Street and Corbett.
Joe France and his wife Bonnie will be opening the new location within the month, said Joe, and are currently renovating the building that has stood empty for months.
“We’re trying to make it look like old Carson,” said Joe. “When people come in we want to reflect the image of Carson the way it was years ago, old pictures of pioneers on the windows, things like that.”
Joe and Bonnie have spent most of their lives in the food business and used to own the Gold Canyon Steak House in Dayton for 17 years, before selling about 7 years ago. Since then, they’ve had a location in Mound House, and now the location in Virginia City.
“I’ve been living here most of my life and I don’t see many unique restaurants in Carson, they’re standard, basic chain-type restaurants, like Mcdonalds,” said Joe. “The restaurant I have is all American food; it’s pretty unique, basic and simple but good quality homemade food.”
Joe said he took the opportunity after Adele’s closed down, which, he said, left a hole in the downtown area for a new business.
“Carson is unique; you have all the businesses in town, lots of people visiting. Since Adele’s, there’s not too many restaurants downtown for the population, it doesn’t seem like quite enough nice restaurants to eat at.”
Joe said the Carson City location will offer the same fare as his Virginia City location, such as burgers served on metal trays, but with a few more offerings for the new location, such as prime rib, steak sandwiches, and more.
At this point, they are slated to open five days a week until they can find another cook, for which they are currently hiring. The restaurant will be open in 3 to 4 weeks, according to Joe, and they are excited to open their doors to the community.
