Virginia City celebrates Comstock's legendary haunts with week of Halloween events

Halloween will be celebrated this week at one of the most haunted destinations in the country, Virginia City, where the Wild West and ghosts of the past are part of the Comstock's legendary folklore.
There's a weekend of fun, family-friendly activities beginning Friday with a host ghost tours, safe trick-or-treating, a scavenger hunt, a paranormal investigation, a Halloween parade and more.
HALLOWEEN WEEKEND EVENTS IN VIRGINIA CITY
Paranormal Investigations at Piper’s Opera House, Oct. 30, 6 p.m. – Another night to catch some frights! Bats in the Belfry, local investigators, are taking you on an exclusive tour of Piper’s Opera Houe. Come look for spirits that occupy the historic structure. Three investigation times are available and limited space on each. For more information go here.
— Electric Halloween Steam Train, Oct. 30-31, 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. – Get in the haunted spirit with a ride on a spooky evening steam train from Virginia City to Gold Hill. Tickets available online here.
— Cemetery Gin’s Hunt for Spirits, Oct. 31 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. -Embark on Cemetery Gin’s Hunt for Spirits, a fun and tasty scavenger hunt through the town. Using your historic Virginia City knowledge, solve clues to unlock a riddle and unscramble a secret of Virginia City’s past, sampling tasty spirits along the way. More details here.
— Hauntober Parade, Oct. 31, 5 to 6 p.m. – Little and big goblins alike, come dressed to scare at the Hauntober Parade on Halloween night. Check-in is at 4 p.m. at the VC Jerky Company. Stick around for safe trick-or-treating at the many shops along the boardwalk. Go here for more information.
— Virginia City Cemetery, Oct. 31, 5:30 to 11 p.m. – Once a year, on Halloween, the gates to the old Virginia City Cemetery open for visitors to stroll from dusk till dark. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
— Mackay Mansion Halloween Scavenger Hunt, Oct. 31, 6 to 11 p.m. – Welcome all ghouls, witches and creatures to Halloween event at one of the most spirited buildings in Virginia City. Enjoy a town scavenger hunt, paranormal investigation and movie to wrap up your Halloween night. More information here.
— Red Dog Saloon Halloween with Lady and the Tramps, Oct. 31 7:30-11:30 pm: Spooky times are coming up to Virginia City this Halloween and Lady an the Tramps are here for the good times. The band is rockin’ at the Red Dog Saloon Halloween night. Let’s see what the spirits bring this Halloween. Make sure to come in your best costume!
— Virginia City Cigar and Bar Halloween Party, Oct. 31: Don that costume and get into the spirit, celebrate Halloween at the Virginia City Cigar and Bar. Enjoy themed cocktails, great spirits and music by Michael Patrick.
